Rear passenger door wont lock and no window operation

Featured Replies

Hi Ive been using the knowledge here for a while now but this problem has me stumped. The rear passenger door wont lock or allow window operation. I found various threads saying it is a problem with the front door wiring loom. I have changed the front door and rear door wiring looms with a pair of 2nd ones i sourced. i have also replaced the rear door module/motor thing. I was also getting an intermittent fault where it was showing a door was open on the dash, this would go on and off as i drove along, now its permanantly on.  after i first took a look at the rear door loom i put it all back together and suddenly everything was working but it only lasted a few minutes.

I have even gone as far as purchasing vcds as we have a seat too so its going to get used a fair bit i think.

Vcds is showing that the rear door is communicating and is showing 3 faults but im stumped as to what to try next. Its a possibility i have obtained a loom with a fault in it too. When i first scanned there was stacks or faults coming up so went through taking a look and clearing them then did this which is the latest scan.

So where do i go now or is it a broken wire somewhere ?

Thanks

@Al69 - My first thoughts were that you have a break in the wiring to that door. Did you continuity test the second hand parts before fitting them?

Unfortunately no I didn't test the new parts.

Breaks in the looms is exceptionally common. Check properly. I would even suggest checking the old one, if you have not binned it as it may guide you to the replacement fault or even be easier to rectify, off the car!

It was real pig removing the drivers door as it's difficult to detach the lock pLug. Ended up drilling out the pop rivets so I could get my hand up inside to remove it. It's not a job I want to do again if I can help it but it looks like my only option at the moment.

I'm going fishing next week so may take the loom and multimeter and test it while I'm chilling.

Ok just sat and tested both looms I took off the car and can't find any problems. As I still have the same symptoms with different looms is it possible it could be a break in the wiring running across the car  or is this unlikely ?

Most common place for a broken wire or frayed cable is inside the flexible rubber snake that takes the cables from the body to the door. The flexing as you open and close the door will break wires if they are too tight. Double check if you have already looked.

If ok, then look for corrosion on the plug and socket at the body end.

I was using a multimeter continuity test on the looms I removed so would have found a broken wiring. Will take a look at the vontactsvand have some contact cleaner.

Failing this I'm losing the will with it and will bite the bullet and get a garage to sort it.

Any recommendations for Skoda specialists around Sidcup anyone ?

When you check for continuity in the loom your best making a couple of connection pins for your meter to insert into the plugs to enable a good contact and then flex the door hinge end and see if the buzzer crackles as you find an intermittent break or it could be one of the connections inside the loom plug thats loose, apart from that did you fit the same numbered locks, does the loom/locks have the correct number of pins as the original ? all the best Stuart

Al69 - did you find a resolution to your problem? I think I have the same issue on out 2014 superb. Rear door does not lock and window not working or intermittent. Garage seems stumped.

As I'm having an extension built at home I've been time poor. It's definitely linked to the front door loom as it's the only door I've been using and it's been worse in the hot weather. The heat is making the wires more pliable and it's been worse on hot days as I drive along. Kept flashing on and off that a door is open. On the cooler days no problem.

i will tackle it but got too much other stuff to tackle first.

I had the same problem with rear door but check front passenger loom in the bendy bit purple /white wire broken causes this fault. easy fix heat shrink solder and extend the wire slightly
