How to remove and replace steering wheel cowl

Featured Replies

After some help.

I’m stuck how to remove the cowling due to previous owner being blind and ramming the key anywhere but in the hole.

Do do you have to remove the steering wheel??

ive found one torx underneath but think they’re might be one hidden either side behind the back of the steering wheel??

please help as is like to change it.

Thanks

ryan.

I have spent some time researching the cowl removal and thought it must be ridiculous to have to remove a steering wheel to get at possible screws.

Anyway.

I have found a youtube video which covers the removal - the steering wheel stays in.

Anyway - watch the video for direction. It’s a bit slow to start with some screenslides and ‘pop’ music.

Pretty clear video. I confess to doing the same damage at times- not easy to see the key slot without peering uncomfortably. I don't recall the problem with my Mk2 Octavia or indeed any other car.

I tend to feel for the hole and then this helps me direct my key in!!

it is trickier than other cars I agree

Thanks, that’s brill. Will get one of those ordered :D

Brilliant post - thanks @Rybu79!  Mine looks exactly like yours.  I always guide my key with a fingertip to avoid damage but the previous owner most definitely did not!  Had assumed the wheel would need to come off so was prepared to live with it - not anymore thanks to you!  Top work.
