I have a replacement chrome piece including the badge, and am just wary of breaking any clips on bonnet when removing the original. 

 

The new one should be identical. But examining the back it has tabs that look as if they slide horizontally onto posts, but they face in opposite directions on each side of chrome piece so that suggests they push down to install and pull off to remove. 

 

Any advice please, before I break something?

Thanks for very useful link. It does sound as if that strip just pops out with careful use of trim tools.
