Anyone had a 'remap' on a 1.6tdi?

Featured Replies

Morning...

I know people 'scoff' at remapping but I want to hear off people who've done it. With the greatest respect I don't want to get into an argument about it, just feedback.

It seems the 1.6tdi 105bhp is the same engine as the 140 in some cases. So tolerances should be fine.

I guess it's the difference I've noticed in driving the wife's golf 1.6tdi... Yes I know the yeti has different gearing and is about as aerodynamic as a shed. (I love the yeti), and I'm. Getting about 46.6mpg on the yeti and the wife's golf is about 56mpg.

If anyone who's had it done could let me know how they got on I would be greatful.

Cheers

(im in southwales celtic tuning have been suggested)

Celtic seem to have a good reputation; what do they say?

Speak to Ben at Shark Performance if you need any advice.

Interesting you see a 10mpg difference between the Yeti and a Golf with the same engine.

That's pretty much the same difference between our 1.2TSi Yeti and 1.2TSi Octavia.

Cheers, will do.

Had my 140 remapped ( 170+hp and 420nm) by Shark best money I've spent on the car goes like a train and even with the caravan on the back its no slouch.

 cheers, I know in real world the mpg is not going to be huge but gaining a bit more guts will be nice.

The difference in 3rd gear compared to the wife's same engine golf is mad.

I thought the 105ps was the most powerful standard 1.6TDi... The 140ps versions are normally a larger 2.0TDi.

I'm not suggesting that it won't be happy at 140ps/150ps, just that it's not the same and unlikely to share many components :)

That's what I thought, I must have misread it on a mapping site? I might try to get a picture of the 140 engine.

Doesn't the Fabia vrs use the 1.6 tdi and get quite a lot out of it. We have the standard Fabia 1.6tdi and that is 100ps

The Seat Leon hire car I had last week was a 115bhp variant of the 1.6TDI.

Unless you're hoofing it round everywhere, your MPG shouldn't really change after a remap...if anything it could improve.

Hire cars tend to be quiet young, it's probably had the newer 115ps EA288 engine rather than the older EA189 as fitted to a 2012 Yeti ;)

This will probably be a very, very stupid question....

Do I have to go to a mapping company, go onto rolling road etc etc...

Or can you be sent the map on an OBD2 black magic box?

I still have to ring a few places (work mad shift hours)

I used Sharks STS system

Downloaded the original map, emailed it to them, they sent me back a new map that I uploaded to the car.

Is the STS system available for the Skoda 1.6 engine?

that's a question for Shark, I can't see why it wouldn't work in principle as its available for many other engines.

I've emailed them...Do they supply bespoke OBD2/cables etc?

Or do o need VCDS etc to upload.

The EA288 1.6TDi feels more responsive and flexible even though the figures suggest it's the same/similar output as the EA189.
