skoda newbie needs help!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I just purchased my first Skoda Octavia, is a 07 plate Tdi Classic with the DSG gearbox and im in need of help to sort out few niggles that are doing my head in.

First issue i had was Abs, Esp and Power Steering light on permanently on dash.

Thanks to some reading on this forum i pinpointed the fault on a worn Abs ring on rear D/S.

I replaced hub myself and as soon i drove car all dash light went off and power steering reset it itself and all fine.

I`m having issues with electrical gremlins now.

Basically the central locking switch on centre console did nothing when pressed, i replaced the switch and now works intermittently.

sometimes locks, sometime unlocks but never locks driver side door.

Actually all the electrical accesories on the driver side door (except for the electric power window) dont work.

Mirror electrical switch only operates left side not matter if i put it on L or R position, indicator on mirror doesnt work and door doesn`t lock when i press switch on inside.

Checked all fuses and cleaned the connection on door behind the Rubber but made no difference.

Being a Classic spec i dont have a remote central locking so when i lock with key door does lock and light flashes.

I have plugged it into a VCDS and i have copied and paste the findings.

If someone with more experience on the matter could help i would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance for reading this

I would start by checking the wiring that goes between the body and the drivers door. Sounds like you could have a broken wire or 2 in the loom

Thanks for the reply.

Already done that last week

I have opened the door as wide as I could, pulled the rubber off and found 3 connectors.

Unplugged them and looked like water entered behind rubber because connectors had green fur on.

Cleaned everything up with electrical cleaner and inspected cables.

All seem to be ok no breakage in the wires that I could see.

I did find a blown fuse but turned out that was for the cigarette lighter and unrelated to the door issues.

Broken wires, poor connectors, corrosion could all be factors

for the sticky locks, it is worth trying to spray them with WD40 (is there a small access hole to stick nozzle in)

If the problem is mainly one door, then the window seals might be leaking, from what you have said sounds like water got in.   Open the door and poke around under the door with plastic knitting needle or wooden kebab skewer to clear any drain holes (this might have already been done, but I bet at one time there was water stuck in there)

On an 11 year old car with 267000km (about 166k miles) could be multiple reasons

Sticky locks??

I don't have any issues with sticky locks.

Car lock fine with key is when I press the central locking switch that the driver side door don't lock.

Yes I do understand that the car is old and has high mileage but I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what is causing this.

If connection is faulty why does window still works and light comes on when I open door?

Is clear that is getting power from somewhere and I find weird that electric mirror, mirror heater, central locking and indicator all failed at same time in one door.

Is there a controller unit for all this parts behind door card separate from window motor?
