Mayo under filler cap-should i be worried?

Featured Replies

Hi all my first posting,

Had my octy just over a month now (from auctions) had mayo under filler cap then (thought it was head gasket) did usual checks, changed oil- no mayo in old oil, no sign of oil in coolant system, no overheating or loss of coolant or oil,

I have read a few threads about condensation causing the mayo because of lack of heat, my 1.8 20v slxi non turbo has a long filler neck due to the plastic moulding that sits on top of the rocker-cover, is it because the heat does not transmit up the plastic filler tube to burn the mositure off,

Please can any other 1.8 20v slxi owners tell me if they have the same condition or is there something else more serious wrong?

Cheers peeps,

In the absence of any other signs or symptoms of cylinder head gasket problems, stop worrying and start enjoying your new car. And welcome to Briskoda. :D

Had the same problem on my vrs so I sympathise with your worry. I too had Beige coloured mayo around the oil cap, no oil in coolent, this was the first time it had happened. I just cleaned the mayo off and went for a long(ish) drive (50 miles). Checked the oil again and there were no signs of the mayo returning. I have recently moved house and now I live only 4 miles from work so the engine dosn't have time to properly warm up which sometimes emulsifies the oil. Best to make sure you are on a 10k service and change the oil more often than that if needed if you dont put many miles on the octy.

Enjoy your car and stop worrying.

Do you know I was trying to think of the word.

Emmulsification.

Thats it.

I have seen it on alot of cars.

As Iceman said just keep an eye on this.

Use good oil and keep to the service schedual.

You cannot check your oil enough really.

I would second , the enjoy your car and dont worry
