MK4 GOLF platform carsService indicator

Featured Replies

Can't really find an answer so I'll ask but why does the MK1 Octavia not have the same service indicator as some other cars based off the mk4 golf. What I mean is the service indicator on the golf is only half the size as the other half is a display of the mpg and other things? Hopefully that made sense

@christo227 - The trip computer on the Octy uses the clock display, and a rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk to toggle functions. The service indicator shares with the odometer values.

You mean the multi-function display between the speedo and rev counter?

AFAIK, you can get half height and full height MFDs, for all vehicles on this platform... IIRC, mine (L&K) has the clock on the left side in the rev counter, but the MFD is half-height and will simply change from 'MPG mode' to 'SERVICE YER BLOODY CAR!!' mode as a text function.

Oh right thank you I didn't know that! How'd you change it to a display rather than a black empty screen? This is my first VAG car so I'm a big clueless haha

Depends on the car.

From memory Mk4's had half display with the exception of the anniversaries? And R32

Bora's had full display which is why people use them as well as generally looking a lot nicer, as well as the air vents.

Seat Leons have half display as well

But these are all subject to build year and which ever box of parts was closest to the bloke putting the car together at the time

The "big multifunction display" wasn't standard on UK Elegance.

However, I believe you can usually swap your own dash unit out with one that does have a full-height MFD...?

I know they can be had on eBay for reasonable money, and at least one seller offers a fitting service (costs a few quid) if you take the car to them!
