Superb 1.8 TSi Automatic

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Been driving octavias  and now an automatic superb 1.9 tdi2006 which is starting to throw up lots of minor niggly faults.  Just been offered at a reasonable (very) price an automatic 1.8 tsi saloon, with only 27k miles on it.  They are genuine as I do know the owner.  I'm concerned about timing chain worries that I've read about but as usual, there are very conflicting opinions online as to whether this is a genuine worry.  Wondering if anyone has experience of this model and year and are willing to venture an opinion on the matter?

It was a friend's mum's car and she sadly passed away but from knowledge of the lady, I would say the car may never have been driven at over 50 mph and I'm neither a fast driver nor do I do a lot of miles (less than 10k / year)

Any shared knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Ciaran

Is the price good?  'Much Cheapness'.

Just budget for any work that might need doing.

How many times has the oil and filter / filters been changed in 12 years / 27,000 miles?

Are the brakes as should be, has the brake fluid been changed, changed recently, are the tyres, wiper, glass etc all A1?

Belts changed ever?

Has a Garage or Dealership being doing lots of servicing and maintenance or just charging for Annual Servicing and doing little?

oops sorry offski..the Tsi is 2012. my current tdi is 2006.  The car has FSH.  Its really the Timing chain I'd be worried about cause i do intend to hold onto the car long term. £6k  full year MOT

FSH will not mean much has been done i take it.

No spark plugs will have been changed, maybe not the air filter, lots of Free Vacuuming & Washing, looking and reporting, changing the oil and filter.

Seeing as it has FSH then maybe just buy a Skoda Warranty and job done.

No way can they say 'Known Issues', if there are any it is 'they' that know so should not take your cash / money and sell you an Insurance Policy'.

Extended Warranty from ŠKODA Insurance – putting ŠKODA into your insurance..mhtml

I think by 2012 the 1.8 tensioner issue had been sorted but just to make sure why not get the tensioner replaced (before damage done it's an easyish/cheapish job if not changing the chain)
