Help with noise

Featured Replies

Having recently changed the DMF and clutch kit , it has started to make a noise when starting in cold like rattle or "bad belt"  idk how to explain it , but goes away when i push the clutch pedal and it goes completely away after driving it for a little , reading in forums iv seen some stuff about a " Thrust bearing" , can somebody explain to me what is that and is it hard to change because as far as i remember that was not changed . Gearbox is 6speed manual

Can you take a video of the noise?

Thrust bearing is normally part of the clutch kit so should have been replaced.

Who replaced the parts, why were they replaced and which brand parts were used?

parts were LuK  replaced by a friend of mine in a local garage , i will try and record it tomorrow , Thank you

It does sound thrust bearing related. It's a small ring that fits on the clutch arm fork so when the arm moves, it pushes the bearing against the clutch cover plate and operates the clutch. Box has to come back off to change it which is why it should have been changed during the new clutch installation. You could of course been unlucky and it has had a new bearing that's faulty.

@Agon - What @niceyellow vrs said, with the additional note that it is possible to misalign the new thrust bearing during installation (not that I've ever done that, but I helped on a few homers where someone had done that back in the day).
