Cat heater noise 1.4tsi hot weather only

Featured Replies

20-30 secs of noise and high revs when cold started in hot weather...is this ok, as been told its the cat heater. Does make a racket. Thought cam chain/tensioner, but its silent all day after the first start...Anyone clarify please??

Welcome.

Some info would be good.

?

Is the car new to you, or how long have you had it?

how old is it & how many miles.

Is servicing up to date, clean air filter, spark plugs ever checked or replaced?  Does it have in VW 504 00 Long Life 5w 30 FS Oil, (maybe short engine life oil.)

or 5w 40 FS VW 502 00

Hi Offski...Its a 2012 1.4tsi with 49k on clock...full history with long life 5/30, but replacing every 10k..All filters newish and plugs done 3k ago...All is quiet after 1st start up, and only happens when ambient temp is warm or hot. Was told its a cat heater and common but I dread it being the chain etc...Thanks for the quick reply btw...cheers

How long have you had the car?

If all is well with the running then chill.  Timing Chain / Tensioner is not a common issue with your engine.

(really just a problem rearing its head with the Euro 5 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136 kw (180-185 PS Twincharger 2012-2014, and obviously it was with other older 1.4 TSI...)

Maybe at next service change to VW 502 / so 5w 40 FS,  your car will love you for doing that.
