Air con worry ?

Featured Replies

I feel as if the air con in my 17 plate octy should be colder. Its cool but nothing compared  to my old VW Passat does anyone else have a similar issue

Yeah, mines the same - it get's there eventually.

It's only three years old, does it need a regas?

I agree, mins a few years older (2014) but I've checked the pressure via VCDS and it is well within spec and yea, I think its pretty weak.  Certainly on manual mode it is.

It is improved somewhat by selecting auto, perhaps it's more just because the front vents are used perhaps since the flaps do their own thing in auto mode.

It's not that powerful though in any mode when I compare it to my older Mk II which was a 2006.

Possibly worth a garage checking the pressure of the gas or if you are near someone with VCDS check for faults and the pressure readings.

It always seems pot luck with cars whatever the make.

Bit like tyres.

Some need regassing every so often.  Some go many years without needing it.

Garages notoriously crap at sorting out slow refrigerant gas leeks.

If you find a experts on this please share as it seems to need Sherlock Holmes smarter brother to sort out !

I thought my aircon didn't seem very good, then i heard a bit of squeaking from the engine bay which went when the aircon was fully off (as in pressing off button) or when aircon was on by pressing AC on).  If fans were on and Ac was off then i got the squeak.  2 weeks later en route for investigation the AC stopped working altogether and squeak stopped.

Mines just had a new compressor and a re gas so im hoping it nice and chilly :D

Overtime they do naturally need re-gassing, whether thats dependant on usage or age i dont know.  On my Columbus with the AC off but fans on it shows that the AC is still affecting MPG, turn AC on it affects it a bit more (according to the sliding bar across the bottom of the screen).  It makes me wonder whether AC is always on to a degree regardless of whether the button is lit.

Thanks for all replies guys ,glad to hear im not alone in this

Have/had a 2013 and 2016 octavia and air con in both have been poor compared to previous VWs I have owned - it is acceptable, but just that.

There is a setting in the infotainment unit that lets you set it to "strong" , if not already set. Not sure if it will help mind
