Can anyone tell me why the owners handbook states that Zenon bulbs should only be changed by a dealer? Hopefully they wont need changing for some time, as I presume they last a lot longer than ordinary bulbs, hope so for the cost of them. Any info gratefully received.

Xenons use high voltages and the capsule is under high pressure too so it's just a safety warning.

 

A competent DIY'er should be able to replace them without too much issue, I certainly managed to. I'd remove the from the car for easier access and suggest safety googles on the off chance it shatters...

Are we talking about plasma discharge units or quartz-xenon bulbs here?

I am talking about Zenon replacement bulbs. Which is what they are called in the handbook.
