High Mileage Reliability - 1.9 TDi

Featured Replies

I do 40K+ a year, a year gone - now 46K and all's well. I hope to keep the car 'til 6 years old ( about 250K ). Will it last without a rebuild ?

Any taxi drivers or sales reps out there that can say how long before a rebuild is due ? I have a friend who had the TDi 90 engine in an old A6 that had 264K on before failing an mot on smoke

I have the TDi 130 but I don't suppose the power should really effect the life of the engine unless you're thrashing about.

It would be interesting to see who has the most intergalactic mileage on a diesel skoda without any engine work being done.

You shouldn't expect any engine problems this side of 300k if you keep it serviced correctly, our cars complete this kind of milage regularly without major engine problems. It's the rest of the car you need to worry about!!

They tend to crop up on ebay sometimes with 200k plus.

my mates A3 110 TDi has just hit 165k, scary thing is he had'nt service it for 20k due to super milage he was doing and only paying 4k fo it.

Anyway it still goes like a train, in fact i was a little shocked at how well it stuck with my 130 beeza. Should go on for another 50k at least. just tedn to find th eolder ones smoke a little more.

but 250k sounds about right, as long as you service it good and treat it with alittle respect. weakest point is still the clutch

Well...My Superb has 97k on the clock at the moment and it runs like a dream and I intend to hold onto it for maybe another 2 years. I previous purchased a VW Bora with 85k on the clock and sold that with 165k on the clock and that is still going.

This PD TDI130 engine IMO is great and as others have suggested if the services are kept up to date then you will have nothing to worry about, high mileage cars need no longer be frowned upon!!

My Octy has done 102k in the last 24 months, not really standard either and no problenms so far

I've seen a 340k Octavia, been used by 3 different owners as a taxi. Had 3 clutches and on second gearbox. Apart from that, it was fine! Amazing car.

I can only suggest keep checking the oil. The PDi seem to like the expensive stuff(I'm on variable service) and its consumed 3 litres in 23000 miles. When its cold, the engine rattles badly on start-up, does anyone know if oil additives like slick 50 et al are ok with the PDi on variable service (with 506 01)?

Dont use any additives.

And PD's do rattle due to the high pressures used in the injection process.

Golf i now have as 100k on clock drives like new
