6 speed quaife

Featured Replies

Hi people just a quick question I've been offered a 6 speed quaife 02a gear set will this fit my 2002 4x4 elegance 1.8t box?

Thanks

I cant honestly tell you if it would or not but can I ask why you would bother even if it was a straight swap?

The 5 speed doesn't sit in too high a rev range at motorway cruising anyway and because the gears are so long you are always in the power band.

You may find with an extra ratio in the box thus shortening the other 5 that you have to work harder to keep the power on tap

They work on diesels because the boost comes in so early but on a petrol I fear it would be a massive waste of time

Thank you for your input

I'm guessing you've never been in a car with a quaife 6 speed it makes one hell of a difference and that's why I want one oh and the noise too so back to my question if anybody can answer it please thanks

I have yes that's exactly the reason I was asking. Is yours a track car?

A few years ago I was helping out mechanically in the paddocks with a friends short lived rally cross red top Nova well as owning over 20 bikes so I know probably better than most the feel of sequential clutchless changes and having worked on a few I also understand the complexity of their workings and fragility of the selector fork.

If your car is to be used exclusively for track or rally use it might be best to find out what the real WRC cars used back then or speak to Quaife directly as it was more than likely to of been them that supplied the rally boxes and diffs to start with or even Skoda if you can find someone to discuss it

02A Box gearsets normally have a further letter added to accurately tailor the ratios, so if you have that, it would be useful to i.d. it better to answer your question.

Just one question though, is this coming direct from quaife, or via an outside party?, as if it is coming direct from Quaife, you might want to talk to the boys there and clarify what actions you will need to take with the rear Haldex unit.

Do you have tooling to crack a 4x4 box to change the gearset?, as it is not a straightforward issue.

Hope it helps

The quaife set is from an outside party the rear haldex is not an issue as for fitting the gear sets that's not an issue niether but thanks for your concern seems to me nobody has fitted a quaife gear set in there mk1 4x4 octavia
