Noisy 2010 Fabia 1.4 Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi. My 2010 Skoda 1.4D has an issue that i can't work out. It has become more and more noisy but it's not exhaust or engine as it sounds normal if you rev it when stationary. I initially thought maybe wheel bearing on way out but jacked up all four wheels and found no play. I'm now thinking transmission as it is only noisy when rolling and rocking front wheels back and forward produces a noise that i'm sure isn't normal. Any thoughts? Should also say that the car has done 98000 miles. Also forgot to say that the car seemed to briefly lose power a couple of times in the last few days but no engine management light displayed. So possibly not transmission related?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Wow, not a normal noise! Wheel bearings don't necessarily have any play when failing, just become noisy. Could be bearings, CV joints, maybe drive shafts or final drive.

To test wheel bearing, jack up with wheel off ground, hold the suspension spring with one hand while rotating the wheel in forward direction (not back and forth). You'll feel a vibration in the spring if the bearing is going. Compare with the other side.
