Weird fuse box issue

Featured Replies

I've received the ABS pump today, and decided to try the repair, replaced the pump, gave the ignition, read the errors with VCDS, and then figured out that some modules were hibernating (navigation and some others) due to a long time since the car last ran. I had to start the engine with the help of a another car ... after a few minutes, everything seemed to be working (mechanically), so I decided to once again read all the errors, before erasing them and then actually seeing what is working and what isn't. What happened is that I've lost power to the ceiling lamps, the front light selector switch, climate control, and possibly some others which weren't noticed ... ok, the first thing to check was the dash panel fusebox, and what I've concluded is that the entire third row of the fuses doesn't get electricity (photo below, marked in green) ... what gives? All the fuses, in both fuse boxes are intact, and point out to a short circuit anywhere (the fuses were individually tested with a 12V tester ... so now I have an issue that the diagnostics socket is also dead, and I can't proceed with VCDS, unless I restore power ... any ideas, what happened? Just don'+t tell me the bonnet fuse box is due to be replaced ...

Managed to locate the issue via another forum, here's the culprit ... in my case, the battery is in the boot, and the "fuses" (well, not regular fuses as in the front fuse boxes) are part of the battery detonator (under the top cover)

I'll see if I can obtain the "fuse" tomorrow.

The flat fuses and their part numbers (once again: 3.6 FSI engine, battery in boot, on the battery detonator), for future reference, if anyone will be facing the same issue (if an entire fuse box row is inoperable i.e.):

That is very kind of you to share Vb, may save someone a great deal of time.

Out of interest what ampage rating is that fuse and what did you do to blow it?

Written in the photo in the previous post (per location on the diagram, one of each, 50A, 80A & 150A) ... to be honest, I'm not too sure myself, I was starting the car with the help of another car (mine being not in use for the last few weeks due to the ABS pump/controller issue, and the battery was flat) with the battery cables ... I have weird clamps on the, there is a possibility that I didn't connect the red (plus) clamp to the main car plus cable, but rather one of the smaller ones plus cables on the detonator, that are linked with flat fuses (HSB fuses if anyone wants to know the right terminology) in between the the plus terminal on the car battery (hard to remember, I was focused on the VCDS and getting the car to run after a long while) ... I don't think the electricity was drained by some wrong installation within the car, everything was completely normal before this had happened

Hello,
How exactly did you solve the problem with the blown 50A fuse (SD3). The fuse blew for me and after changing the fuse it burns again when the ignition is on. On the cable in question (SD3) with a blown fuse, I have a voltage of 12 v. I'm already at a dead end!
Thank you!
