Skids Octavia 172

Just wondering if anyone else experienced a problem with the manual break. I park my car on a slope in my driveway and it has rolled into the front of my house twice now. This happened after 5 mins of leaving it there.

Hi, can you give a bit more detail on the car?

Age, spec etc?

Do you leave it in gear when you park?

@Colum2018 - Not a scooby from that. Is the handbrake (at least I presume that's what you mean by "manual break" (sic)) correctly adjusted? If you have rear discs (impossible to determine from data posted) have one or both of the rear calipers seized? Are the rear brake pads worn out?...

I once left mine in a supermarket car park on a slight slope and came back out to find it had moved about 30m on its own. Very luckily for me I had parked out of the way and it didn't hit anything. I must've not put the handbrake on enough and I hadn't left it in gear. Nowadays I normally put it in 1st when parked.

Could also be contributed to by the brakes cooling down when parked and that reducing the 'grab' the handbrake has.

Some possible options:

  • Put handbrake on tighter.
  • Leave in gear when parked.
  • Get calipers checked - may be seizing up.
  • Get handbrake adjusted if it's imbalanced.
  • Replace handbrake cables.
  • Chock the wheels when parked on a slope.
