changin my furby for an octy

Featured Replies

i have a fabia vrs (04)

its been chipped. Discs brake upgraded, brake pads. wheels and tyres but i feel like im missing out on the fun of a petrol turbo vrs. my furb is due its 2nd service now and i was thinkin of swapping it for a octy vrs(03)

is this a good idea? the octy is older but i cant help but wonder what it would be like to own and drive. my insurnce will go up but not too much so im not worried about that and i avarage 25mpg in my furb.

are there any problems with the octy? like the furby having bad brakes and slipping clutch?

any coments would be great! cheers:thumbup:

my right foot is made of lead;)

Controversial, and to be expected from me, don't do it mate.

The Fabia is soooo much fun with the mods you have made, and the old octavia will not give as much pleasure driving it. IMO. My Octy 2 is a nice place to be, it's comfy, goes/stops well, etc, but doesnt make me laugh/smile/wee in my pants with excitement like the Fabia does.

And apart from what I just said, the Fabia will look better in your spielberg esque productions

25mpg verage how.

only way i could do that is to drive everywhere in 1st

if you acheived that in the fabia VRS you will not get much more than 15mpg in the octy.

seriously, i would go drive one and see what you think before you make any descions, i think you may be a little bit shocjed to be honest.

My previous car was a 230bhp Ibiza 1.8T FR, was fun and quick, but the difference between the tdi ibiza is surprising really. I thought the 130 tdi would feel like a slow coach when compared, but i was shocked, that torque really narrows the gap. And the octy will be like a fat barge compared to my old Ibiza.

me thinks you may be making an unwise descion

Get the Octy vRS, you know you wannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnna:D

like i said i have a very very heavy right foot! and race nearly every sunday. mpg has been shocking since my remap but the remap itsself is amazing.

My thoughts exactly !!!!! Even when I hammer it over a fairly long journey (and then crawl through rush hour traffic in a city centre) I'm looking at low 30's....

Unless of course Whelan's car only ever sees the track ?

4x4! 4x4!

in the past 12months i have had the car i have gone through 3sets of front tyres. 1clutch. 1 engine mount. 1 intake pipe. as you can see from my sig the car is really driven and i love it to bits but time to time i still wonder about the petrol powerd turbo!

get the octi, if your not worry about the petrol bill then it's the way to go

Track driving explains that kinda MPG - I can get below 30 mpg when giving it some whilst staying near NSL.

Your car sounds like it's very sorted and great fun, very low mileage on it still though.

IMHO try out a 'properly sorted' Octy vRS and 4x4 ;) with a lot of work done on it, see how you find it on road/track?

It all comes down to personal preference with these things, the Octy is of course much larger and it will be a totally different beast to drive.

blimey, can i buy your Fabia then it sounds like its been treated like a princess.

( if your definition of treated like a princess involves whipping the princess rond and doing her roughly up the wrong un!!!) surprised the furby has taken that much of hammering, poor car .

is there not a home that thrashed furbies can go to to live out their days achieving 50mpg averages etc.......lol

:finger: lol

clutch was replaced due to the extra power given from the remap.

engine mount dont know why this broke? i was on the motoway.

intake pipe broke due to movement by the engine due to above.

tyres i never use asr cos it ruins my drivin. ie.today after viewing a octy i went to pull out onto a roundabout and a wheel spun so asr kicked in an nearly stopped me dead halfway onto the roundabout making me look like a fool!

tyres2: i race her on a sunday evening:P

Go for it then mate, get the Octy plus remap and dump valve and you'll be away......

Surely it just depends what you want?

If you want a small car keep the Fabia or get a Leon Cupra. If you want a bigger car, get a bigger car!

yeah thats a point, depending on how much you have would the LCR be a better seeing as they start at 8k now and you get the K0-4 straight away and 4-pots. Would suit you better for track work etc

where in the world are you mate? wanna come try a played with 4x4?? i'm in oxford and the sort of mods i've done are the sort of things i would expect you to do(brembo's, coil overs, remap, TIP, exhaust, manifold, fmic, clutch, etc)

lol, a bit far then maybe.

yup, maybe i will stick with the furb for a bit longer then. thanks for the suggestions and offers.:o

I haven't had the pleasure of driving a Furby vRS yet, but have driven the 115bhp Furby and the 130bhp Leon and was really suprised at both of them. Also I had a Mini Cooper for a company car for a short period. With watching Top Gear and seeing the Furby vRS whup the Mini Cooper round the track I am assuming that they are a good comparison. Knowing how the Cooper handles and goes I think that you may well be disappointed in the standard Octy vRS. It is no where as nimble as a smaller hatch back, being designed mainly as a family motorway muncher. You will certainly feel the extra mass trying to pull you wide in the tight corners. The long bonnet and cavernous boot create pretty big overhangs at both ends again adding to the car wanting to run wide. I have no doubt that having the suspension stiffened and lowered will greatly reduce this.

If I am driving for pleasure I too turn off the ASR as I feel that hampers your efforts especially when exiting tight corners.

From reading your thread I think that as a fully paid up petrol head you won't be keeping the Octy standard for long. If that is the case then go for it as there is much more you can do to the petrol lump than the DERV one.

I have driven the ibiza FR TDi 130 (standard) had it as a company car for 2 months, and it was mighty quick and a fun car to drive. But my octy vRS is lots more fun and quicker imo. Its nice being able to rev a car over 5000 revs again after being used to diesels for the past 3 years.

But i wouldn't know how quicker or how much more fun a chipped furby/Ibiza FR would be so i cant say.

I'd go for the octy if it was me, but its down to personal taste at the end of the day. Go for a test drive and see.

or why not go for a petrol ibiza/leon with the 1.8T

At the end of the day a diesel is not really a sporty number.
