ABS SENSOR

Featured Replies

Hi All

Got prob with ABS under light brake pedal use i get the abs coming on so i checked the codes and it came up with wheel sensor on n/s faulty so i replaced it went and tried it which made no difference to it vibrating the pedal apart from the dash warning has gone out. Now when i stand on the brakes at 30 mph i get the vibrating pedal and the abs lights on the dash so i checked the codes again and it says 43 lost 23 wheel sensor on o/s faulty so i replaced it so its now got two new wheel sensors. Just been out in the car and the same thing happens abs is coming on under light braking but no dash warnings show unless i stand on the brakes at 30 mph re checked the codes and it's still saying wheel senor on o/s faulty n/s sensor passed any idea's what the prob may be.Thanks in advance

Reluctor ring, have you had the wheel bearings changed lately?

Hi

No i haven't i read about the rings or notches to clean them out yet i cant see any on the driveshaft i had to take the n/s leg of the car to drill the sensor out as it had welded it's self in place and snapped of flush i did have a good look and all i can see is the rear of the bearing i gave the casting a good clean with wire brush and the drive shaft the sensor just sits in a hole in the casting of the leg and just sits above the cone part of the driveshaft with no sensor ring on either side.  It don't make much sense as the wife was driving  she came to a roundabout went to brake the pedal started to vibrate and went hard and she had no brakes and went round the roundabout a bit quicker than she wanted to then it started to show ABS symbol in the dash bought a reader came up with one fault abs sensor n/s i then fitted the new sensor on the n/s done a scan with no faults i then tried the car same thing pedal vibrating then went hard with hardly any brakes then the ABS light comes on then if you turn car of and re start it lights go out and the pedal is about half way down and it stops as it should but with the pedal vibrating away its got me scratching me head lol

Pink arrow is pointing at the ABS magnetic ring (please ignore the fact that it's a four-bolt hub in this picture, Fabia one has same sensor ring). It is an integral part 8of the bearing/hub assembly.

I see so what happens to the ring does it just break up and come off bit weird that it chose the n/s sensor first now it's changed and gone to the o/s should i just take the leg off and buy a secondhand leg with hub and try that or just replace the hub and bearing i guess ill need a decent puller to get the bearing and hub out.

Don't start blaming the sensor ring unless you have information to suggest that the bearings have been replaced recently. It needs special tooling to fit the hub/bearing and not everyone knows this. Just forcing them in with a press tends to cause problems.

Much more likely wiring or connection problems.

I wasn't blaming the sensor ring all iv'e got to go on is the code reader saying driver side wheel sensor is faulty yet iv'e fitted a new one cleared the fault code tried the car and its still doing the same and throwing up wheel sensor faulty when i do a scan on the ABS. Mrs moved the car tonight and she said when she went backwards there was a clonk and the ABS symbol cleared it's self in the dash so she went forward at about 20 mph and stopped and the ABS symbol stayed off and it stopped as it should. So i don't know where ta look now i did wonder if it could be the ABS unit that has all the pipes going to it but id of thought that would show as faulty when i do a scan. I cleaned the fuse's on top of the battery and earth wires today.next ill take the leg of the car and give it a good wire brushing and some WD40 and have a good look at it and see if there's owt that looks broken.

I've had similar issue to my ABS/ESP system, the 2 indications have started since some days now to show on the dash and maxidot says ABS/ESP failure while I usually press gently the pedal.

Also feeling some times a vibrating pedal a bit ...

Car is 2009 and 130K km so far.

VCDS indicates a faulty rear right sensor which has been replaced with new but has not made any difference and still the same error..

Not still replaced any bearings or things yet.

Will have to investigate further though but not sure what the crap's happening...

Finally ended up to be dirt/debris  (not quite small ammount!!)  gathered from behind on the hub's ring  (black rubber/plastic one)  and probably the magnetic sesnor was misreading the distances ...

A good cleaning out performed and placed everything back in place - cleared all fault codes  from ABS/BRAKES controller, ENGINE controller and STEERING WHEEL controller - run the car and directly problem gone and solved.

So was not nessacery to replace the sensor...but anyway keeping it as a spare for any future possible issues shown regarding the sensor itself or selling it .

Good info, thanks @AkisVH.

Akisvh  That's pretty much what i done to the N/S so ill do the same to the O/S and see what that does for it fingers crossed that sorts it out. Then it will be up for sale on facebook as the wife has fell out with it and has been and bought another car and not a Skoda. :)

estelle130  the ABS pump surely is not at fault as if it was it would indicate issue at the pump.  It has separate fault diagnostics system the pump.

If diagnostics continue to shown issue on the wheel's sensor i would thought problem still keeps on being there.

Look for any damages on the "leg" as you reffered prievously that something was broken somewhere there and apparently "fixed" but not sure if this has changed the accurate sit of the sensor or the readings it is trying to do according to the magnetic ring on the hub..

It seems it needs more searching..

So, this is my first post since the Skoda-forum in sweden is very inactive.

what are the possibilities for an "abs-speed sensor rear left" fault:

1. A faulty speed sensor/abs-sensor rear left
2. Broken cables somewhere between the sensor and the abs-pump
3. wheel-bearing-magnetic ring-thingy ;)

4. Anything else????

From what I understand it cant be the abs-pump, since that would state another fault-code, yes??

Do your rear doors leak when it rains heavily?

A member on here found a loom connection for the (right) rear sensor had corroded away to green dust just under the trim that runs along at the bottom of the doorway. I assume there is a similar connection on both sides of the car.

I'll try to find the thread for you and bump it.

Akishvh  Yeah that's what i thought the reader would say if the pump was faulty. And there wasn't nowt broken it just put the abs symbols on the dash and the pedal started vibrating it first came up with n/s sensor so i done that side cleaned the hub put it back and that side is fine now i broke the sensor trying to get it out of the leg so i drilled it out holding the leg in me vice in me shed. now it's saying o/s sensor yet iv'e replaced it i drilled this side out with the leg still on the car so i haven't cleaned this side with me rotary wire wheel & wire brush and i didn't drown it in WD40 so i'm going to do what i did with the n/s leg take it of the car and give it a good going over then see if that clears the fault. failing that ill thrash the car to a inch of its life with a tree branch lol how doe's it go always look on the bright side ov life whistle lol
