Towbar fitting

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a 2014 Octavia estate 1.6tdi Black Edition. As you’ll appreciate, it has a non-standard rear bumper. Does anyone know if I need a special version of tow bar, or if I will need to start chopping bits off the bumper (not preferred).

Any advice please? Cheers.

AFAIK the bar is the same and a bumper cut is needed. You have to cut a standard one as well btw, but it’s not a visible cut.

Just had a towbar fitted by Indespension  to my 2014 Mk3 Octavia Estate ..  the bumper is cut on the underside, the rear cross section of the chassis  is replaced with the tow bar ..

I waited while it was fitted, it  took about three and a half hours , lot of the time was spent doing the electrics for the lights and running the power from the fuse box in the glove box for the fridge and battery charging circuits.

Cost was £295 with 13 pin socket  for caravan electrics .

Very neat job and pleased with price..

hope that helps ..

Thanks folks. Some encouraging advice to ponder over.

Quite a few long threads about towbars if you do a bit of a search. Don't think the black edition has huge differences that will matter, it is only an additional piece that is bonded to a standard bumper anyway.

It will need a cutout and if it has fully hidden metalwork there is a cover that will clip into the cutout if it is done to size. (although you cant see the hole anyway) If you look underneath you should be able to see the two separate bumper covers. The standard bit of the bumper should be underneath with the cutout marked in the plastic

As ever I say three things about towbars

1 Get whatever metalwork you like, detachable, non-detachable whatever fits your bike-rack etc etc

2. Get proper dedicated wiring, preferably the factory Skoda additional wiring looms they are little, (if any) more expensive than third-party kits

3. Get it coded properly

(in reverse order of importance)
