Clutch Pedal Noise

Featured Replies

Is it normal to get a small click/thud noise when you lift the clutch pedal up quite fast? I am just wondering as my new 18 Fabia does it, and my brothers 17 Fabia does as well. I never noticed anything like that from my 14 Octavia. Am I just being paranoid! It is not loud, but you can here it in the car. But it only does it when you use the clutch when the engine is running, not when the engine is off.

Thanks for any opinions, it might be just a trait of the car.

It started to hear on my F3 1.2 TSI 110 PS, MY2016 at ~90.000 km. I will see at next service what's the problem.

I would expect the clutch to slap like symbols, if you just whip your foot off the peal after a gear change!

I'm pretty sure that's entirely normal. I have an automatic DSG but my neighbours manual F3 TSI 110ps makes the noise, it's just mechanical noise as you'd expect.

Are you "lifting the clutch pedal up quite fast" because you are using high revs to do racing starts? Instead, don't do racing starts. Just use 1000rpm revs and release the clutch normally and the noise will not be there. Problem solved.

Humm, I think the better answer, in my experience is, “they will all do that eventually” - thought in all fairness I am judging my experience only on a sample of one 1.2TSI 110PS 6 speed.

There is no getting away from the fact that the faster you lift your clutch the greater the shock load you are putting into the transmission system. Best not to do it except in emergencies if you need a quick getaway. Of course it may be that the OP realises this but accepts it because that is the price of what they see as 'enjoyable' driving and be happy to pay the repair bills when they are needed. It's their choice.

I'll stick with my answer as I had considered that the OP has been treating his cars with some respect, it took over 2 years and 20K miles for my wife's August 2015 Polo to start making that noise.

I don't do racing starts, and it is the only car that I have ever noticed it on. I have driven all makes and models, plus it only seems to be when you go from 1st to 2nd, and occasionally from 2nd to 3rd. I am very proficient in clutch use, as I use to be an observer for the IAM, helping to get people ready for their Advanced Driving Test, so I had to demonstrate correct clutch use etc. I drive Astra's and Corsa's and Focus's at work dozens of different ones and have never noticed it.

Not sure how, on the basis of having one fabia do it you can say 'they will all eventually do that. I'm not seeing a string of posts relating to the problem.

I do know the VW 'Up'/Citigo/Mii range had this problem, reported by many drivers. It was on the early models and has been addressed, but not seeing it as common on Fabias?

Well keep your car for a while and it might just end up with this issue, remember one thing, the clutch release mechanism on these 1.2TSI 16V engines for some reason has reverted to being an "old school" external slave cylinder, release lever and release bearing, I think all current small VW Group cars have moved back to the "all in one hydraulic release assembly" that all other small VW Group cars used in the past back to when Fabia etc first appeared.

I had the slave cylinder replaced on mine for weird clicking noises and an uneven feeling underfoot. First time I've ever had a clutch mechanism problem on a VAG. My Citigo's made a single 'clap' if released too quickly, but gave no indication of a fault.

What I'm saying is, people who have kept their cars for a while are not reporting this problem.  All cars have issues, anything that moves wears but if it becomes the norm, then we have problems. That's not happened yet to my knowledge.

Ah well, next "must buy" might be EVAP solenoid valve, seems like they are about to surface as an issue, which is weird for a part that is in common use across the VW Group fleet for very many years, though maybe Valeo has moved its manufacturing base Eastwards a bit and only newer cars will get this issue.

Mine does it so that makes at least 2 of us and I don't whip the pedal up fast .shame really as rest of car is great

Make that 3 of us! My 67 plate 1.0TSI 5speed estate does exactly this when going from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and even 3 to 4 unless I lift my left foot VERY slowly. Never experienced this before in over 45 years of different vehicles and last car was a 1.2TSI Roomster.

Hi I'm pleased to see that it is now 5 cars, it must be a quirk of the Fabia. My brothers 17 Fabia does it as I said in the original post, so it must be normal now. Doesn't make any difference to the way it drives to me. I must be getting used to it now as I don't hear it has much.

6 cars now! I started a new thread on this the other day because I missed this one. I'll keep all my posts in this thread from now on. I've booked my 2016 1.0 mpi in with the after sales people at the dealer for next tuesday, will report back what they say. I hope i won't have to replace the clutch. I feel stupid cos i've only had the car a few weeks but just didn't notice it on the test drive.

Well i took it to the dealer, the mechanic had a bit of a drive around in it and did hear the noise. It was maybe not as loud as i normally get it, maybe he had a slower foot action than me. Anyway he said it is quite common on small Skoda and vw and nothing to worry about. To be fair the gear change is still smooth, its really just a noise thats got me worried. I think I'll just keep and eye on it and make a point of mentioning it when it gets to its next service. Not 100 per cent satisfied but the rest of the car is great só I'll live with it and hope for the best!

I have noticed that I only here it now and again, so either I am getting used to it or is not as loud.

I will keep an eye on it.

This post seems quite old but I have exactly same problems as described here with my new superb B8 1.5 TSI manual transmission. Noticed the same noise when shifting if the shifting is done in a somewhat a more rapid manner ( not very slowly). To me it looks like some manufacturing defects. Does anyone has some experience with dealers acknowledging the problem as being a manufacturing issue?!

Did you guys fixed your transmissions or you just kept using as it is?
