Car tax hike

Featured Replies

I’ve just received a 2018 SEL Asg Citigo and have found out that the new tax is £140.00 now as opposed to £20.

just a heads up for others. The dealer pays for the first year, but it’s an amazing jump in price!

The tax changes came in April 2017 I think, have you been living under a rock?

More or less all IC cars are now at least £140

One of the most stupid things George Osborne did as chancellor. It removed the incentive for buying more economical cars and it now means that in some cases you can buy an older (possibly less clean) car and pay less in road tax than a new one.

If they are really more economical you will buy less fuel and pay less tax / duty on fuel.

As it was people were getting cheap or free VED and as it turned out the emissions where not that low it was just the kidology of the out of date tests that had them given 'Implausible / irregular' Co2 g/km results.

The WLTP figures will show that previous testing results were kidology, but then the new tests are still nothing to do with when the cars seats are occupied as they might be and luggage in the boot and actually driving with a loaded car.

I decided to keep my 2014 Citigo and zero tax when this change was implemented. I was negotiating a new Citigo at that time.

Same here, but decided to go nearly new and got the last plate before tax rise.

I was lucky My car was registered 31-3-17,just managed to sneak in before the tax change.

I've said for years road tax should be on the fuel only a couple pence

Every one has to pay it so no tax Dodgers

 Plus

Mr rep who does 20k plus miles a year therefore using and wearing out  the road more pays a lot more then little old.mrs Smith down the street who goes to bingo on a Tuesday and Asda on Saturday

Lorries and hgv would receive a rebate

Commercial vehicles for business would receive a rebate  depending on vehicle type and usage to prevent people circumventing the system
