Looking at a VRS d. DSG

Featured Replies

Hi guys

new here basically owned a mondeo st tdci 06 for nearly 8year great car had during owning for family size boot mpg and (bit of power).

Sold the car as as it was too old and had to go sadly.

Have 3 kids an a wife so my criteria for a new car was space. But it (must be an auto)  But nothing too big as the wife doesn't like huge cars nor do I (7searer style). Looking at 14- new plate cars no more than £15000

after looking at a 5 series sadly altho huuuuuuge the rear seats are tiiiiiiny for 3 kids (2kid chairs)

llooked at an a4 s line 16 plate . Kids fit ok I spose however it did feel smallish and obviously a smallish boot as it's a saloon.

Drove a golf gtd 15 plate. Felt great largishish rear however boot small.

So so yesterday I looked at an Octavia VRS dsg 15 plate. Only got a 2 min drive as it had no fuel so didn't really get too much of a feel.

Is is there anything I should look out for on these cars. Any common problems ect.  It had memory seats. I love the size of the car and going for a proper drive today. Slightly disappointed personally that it's the same price second hand as the previous cars which seem to be bettter built inside and come with more luxuries / toys.  But I'm guessing the Octavia is cheaper for servicing / parts?  On paper the Octavia is probably as close to the mondeo as any car for size performance space and boot opening.  So for my proper drive today anyone got anything to watch out for altho it's only done about 30000k miles on a 15 plate.

Many advice / info would be great though thanks guys

Andy

Only just seen your post, and I wouldn’t had had any advice for you anyway! But did you buy it? I’ve just bought a dsg VRS and love it.

How have you been getting on with it then ? Did you have a dsg prior ?

First time I’d ever driven an auto was on the test drive! But I honestly can’t understand why it’s taken me so long.  Such a joy to drive, so smooth.  It’s also good fun messing with semi auto as well.

did you get one?

Still looking at purchasing really. Can you change up and down with the paddles like ?

What colour did you get. Hatch or estate ?

Yes you can but I prefer to nudge the gear stick back which puts it in sport mode, overtake nudge it again and back in normal.

Hatchback in electric blue.

Nice did you manage to get it at a good budget and mileage ? Also got told they need a service on the dsg gearbox

The DSG needs the Oil changed every 40,000 miles. Main Dealers charge £179 for that.

7 grand off on pcp, 10,000 miles with first 2 services included so yeah I think so. Wasn't originally looking at a new one but it was cheaper than 1 year old ones!

15 plate should mean you've got the later fixed fuel pump, so that's a problem you shouldn't see.

Just keep your eyes open for momentary flashes of a warning about putting the DSG gearbox into park, and returning to workshop. I've had that on both my DSG's, both about 30k 3 years. Luckily both happened just before warranty ran out, requires a new gear selector.

Other than that mine have been faultless.

I’d also look to see weather the gearbox has had an oil change (depending on the mileage at the time) and weather the cam belt and water pump is due for a change depending on the mileage or time interval.
