2016 Skoda Octavia Scout gearbox problem

Featured Replies

I recently bought a used 2016 Skoda Octavia Scout with 1.8L turbo charged petrol motor and six speed DSG gearbox which had only travelled 17,000 kilometers.

On a number of occasions  the gearbox has failed to change up through the gears and the engine revved to above five thousand rpm  despite the fact the vehicle was not being accelerated.

Each time this has happened I pulled over to the side of the road and put the gearbox into 'park' and stopped the motor.   After restarting the operation of the gearbox went back to normal.

The vehicle has been only recently been serviced and nothing was reported to me.   Obviously I will have it checked by Skoda as the vehicle is under warranty but I am  interested to find out if this is a common issue and what may be wrong with the car.

Thanks.

Does your Scout have the option to go into sport mode if you pull the gear shift back against its spring?

Gaz

Not a common issue and it could be the DSG ECU, or Mechatronic Control Unit, just a connection or anything really.

Was the Service just that, an engine Oil & Filter service and a plugging in of the diagnostics?

Was a road test carried out.

?

Did you tell them about the issue or has it happened just since the service?

Best get the car left with a dealership and get your courtesy car until the fault is rectified.

I took the vehicle to the Skoda distributor yesterday to have the issue checked.   While they had the car they were unable to reproduce the fault and told me that no fault codes were present.   In their view they thought it was possible that I had inadvertently moved the gear lever over to the manual position which would account for the high engine revolutions.          I guess all I can do now is monitor the situation  and ensure the lever is in the correct position.

I hope they have logged your report on the system while your car is covered by warranty.

I have had passengers knock DSG shifters into 'N' a few times, and i have also been changing down using Manual Shifts and then moving to 'D' for upshifts and forgot i was in 'Manual Mode',  but then that does not lose drive and have the car in Neutral just the wrong gear which the 'Car Brain' shorts.

I have also been driving DSG's / S-tronics with petrol & diesel engines where they had a brain fart, i suspect your Mechatronic Control Units is having some disruption.

Next thing is going to be a reset of your DSG.   Pity while it was there being checked for fault codes and given a road test the Master Tech did not do a 'Reset'.

But maybe they did while plugged in.

Be sure if ever you have a 'Loss of Drive' which is a'Safety Critical event',  call Skoda Assist, get your car collected for a proper Investigation / Diagnosis by a Master Tech with all the gear and an idea.   & get a Courtesy car.

All the best.
