What does DSG stand for.

Is the Octavia VRS petrol or diesel.

Digital Sequential Gearbox,

Petrol (for now )

I may be wrong due to stress of 14 year old and vodka !

I thought DSG was Direct Sift Gearbox...............May be wrong

Is that to do with flour ?

Great................Do I win the X-Box..;)

It is definately Direct Shift Gearbox - I should know 'cos I've got one.

It is a manual which changes automatically not an automatic with a manual option. There is no torque converter so no loss in power transfer. You just have to watch it rolling back on hills if you are used to a "normal" automatic.

Mine is coupled with the 2.0TDi (140) an goes like stink. You just floor the accelerator and hang on.

I apologise, I shall refrain from further replies until I have either

A: sobered up

B:murdered the Horrible Child (not really!)

C:realised that most of the time I don't know what I am talking about. I shall ask the Horrible Child for guidance, as she knows everything !

Are you allowed to drive a DSG with an automatic licence??

Are you allowed to drive a DSG with an automatic licence??

Funnily enough something i asked on the DSG course..lol

We decided yes you would as it doesnt have a clutch pedal so is in essence an automatic.

I can't see any reason why it is not classified as an automatic - there is no clutch pedal and it will swap the cogs for you. Just watch the roll back - you have to use the handbrake occasionally on hill starts - but soon as you take your foot off the brake the engine starts to pull forward slightly - but you do roll back first and it is fun trying to crawl up hill to a junction.

New Octavias will start having hill start control fitted as standard soon. On inclines over 5 degrees iirc the ABS holds the brake on until forward motion is about to overcome them and then releases.
