text messages only going to car, not phone

Featured Replies

Hi, when my galaxy S3 is bluetoothed to the car it works great except any text messages while I'm connected only go to the car and not the phone. So I find when I look at my phone later there is no notification of these texts and I miss them. When my phone is not connected to the car I receive my texts as normal.

How can I get any texts to go to the phone as well as the car when I'm bluetooth connected?

This is the only problem I have found with my wonderful car

You need to change from 'Premium' mode to 'Handsfree'. It's buried down in the settings menu somewhere.

Enable messages on SIM card too, not in phone only, and you will get such messages too as they are stored on SIM card while unit works in RSAP mode.

That's a poor solution to the problem. While rSAP sounds great in theory, the fact that it fails to synchronise calls and texts back to the phone is a huge failing. It's really only useful if you spend a lot of time in the car in areas with very poor signal strength.

HFP is much more straightforward and seamless between phone and car.

Change the settings on the car from Premium to Handsfree and you'll be fine.

Thanks for your input guys, unfortunately I haven't been able to find the setting called premium on the car and I haven't found where on my phone I can change a setting to get texts sent to my sim. The premium setting on the car sounds like the best route, if I can find it :o

Hi @Daddio - that seems to be how it works on the Mk2 System.  My Wife's Galaxy S7 Edge had the same problem.

The "Premium" and "Handsfree" options are not on the Sat Nav display, but in the "Bluetooth" options on the Dashboard display area (maxidot). Hope that points you in the right direction!

You normally have two choices, Premium (rSAP) or Hands-free (HFP), if I remember correctly this can be set via the maxidot/cluster, something like: Phone -> Settings -> Phone Settings -> Phone Mode.

However, depending what BT module you have, it may only support rSAP rather than both rSAP and HFP... If that's the case, the above will be missing unless you replace the BT module.

Oddly, the Premium function is less useful for most people than Handsfree.

Premium (or rSAP) mode disconnects the sim from the GSM tranceiver in your phone and connects it (via bluetooth) to a GSM tranceiver in the car. All calls and texts are routed through the car rather than the phone. All calls and texts sent/received while it's connected are left on the car and difficult to sync back to the phone. Also, it means that mobile data won't be available on your phone while it is connected to the car.

Handsfree mode routes the phone audio over bluetooth to the audio system on the car and allows certain control functions of the phone to be handled by the car. The phone works as normal.
