Skoda octavia 4x4 gearbox oil change.

Featured Replies

Please can someone clarify something for me?

The gearbox on this car has two drain plugs, one on the small diff unit where the prop shaft connects and one on the main gearbox.  I have drained both.  The front diff unit where the propshaft connects, is this filled separately to the gearbox?  OR are both joined and share the same oil?

Thanks,

Samuel

a bit more research will show I think that it is two and they use different oils at least the mk2 facelift does    as does the rear gear oil and HALDEX fluid/oil

They are linked together and use the same oil.

Thanks for the reply.. It would make sense as I had a good feel around on top of the diff and there are no fill plugs..

The odd thing is according to ETKA the 5 speed has a big fill plug on top of the front diff and the 6 speed does not have a fill plug.  Mine is a 5 speed as far as I'm aware.. unless someone has fitted a 5 speed shifter to a 6 speed box lol.

On ETKA the diagrams show that the diff unit without the fill plug is the 6 speed.

I`m really confused.
