LED Number plate light & Reverse Camera Help

Featured Replies

Hi

I have installed a RCD330 stereo (Replaced Swing unit) which was just plug and play, and have now added a reverse camera to it (strangely the camera worked, no VCDS coding needed!)

I have wired it all in and its working lovely (bit of a bugger with the tailgate rubber hose but bit of fiddling and all there), however couple of issues:

1) The camera is a number plate camera, which also has an LED to replace the OEM number plate light. This isn't working although I have wired into the OEM wires (is this down to VCDS coding? If so, I guess I would need to change both to LED, as don't think it'll work with one of each on the same circuit?) Might just be a faulty unit!

(this is the camera - https://audiotechdirect.com/direct-fit-audi1-after-market-rear-camera-for-audi-vw-skoda/

2) As the camera is on the left number plate light, the grid on the screen isn't correct, if should be further right, not sure how to adjust (if possible)

I have just used cable clips in the rear tailgate in case I have to replace the camera. Once all working OK I will solder wires correctly

Maybe just replace it with a boot handle camera, as I already have all the wires in, and will be able to put the OEM number plate light back in and have a centered camera!.

Any help/comments appreciated

Totally unfamiliar with this system but fairly familiar with LED bulbs and usually, they are pole sensitive... They need to be plugged/wired in the correct way and not just form a circuit. Try wiring the other way or turning the bulb around and see if that helps! I have LED bulbs in my numberplate lights and internal lights, among others and they need going in the correct way or they will not light up.

Thanks mrgf, will try later when the car is back from service at the dealership

I did try it off the glove-box light also but wouldn't work on the correct +/-, but will try reversing the wires to see if that's it.

I think what is happening is that the LEDs in the camera module will only come on when the camera needs them, i.e. in low light conditions and brighten the darker the night progresses. Unlike the normal tailgate light that will be on with the lights. You may want to site the camera in a different place than there if you are worried about MOT.
