Enabling some features

Featured Replies

Can anyone please advise the procedures for activating the gauge needle sweep on startup and the audible beeps when locking/unlocking the car? I'm taking my Karoq Edition in to the dealer tomorrow to try and fix the problem with radio stations going blank, and I thought, while he was updating the Columbus software, I'd ask him to activate the above two features which I really miss from my 2012 Fabia. Is there also a way to disable the Start/Stop function? Thanks!

AFAIK all these can be activated/deactivated through VCDS although your dealer might not do this for you, they are not always keen to mess with these settings

Thanks Panther_uk. I'll post later how I get on. I wonder if the Canton can be modified with the VCDS? It sounds harsh to me and over trebley.

I'm pretty sure that the current EU directives mean that they aren't allowed to turn on the beeps (well, they cant if the car has an immobiliser though they could if it is an alarm only).  The needle sweep will be down to what they are willing to do.... I'm betting you will have to visit a VCDS owner with a 6-pack of beer!

The needle sweep and deactivating the stop/start system requires coding. Your dealer won't do this.

The turning off of the locking chirp used to be an option in one of the menu's, it was in our 2016 MkIII Octavia, however looking through the latest Karoq (and Kodiaq) manuals it isn't mentioned. TheRobinK must have it right, sounds like the EU has your neighbours interests at heart.

The beeps some people seem to think is illegal in some countries is actually one and two blasts of the car horn, this is what people talk about when refering to unacceptable sound. I agree that this is unacceptable during unsociable hours. However, the chirps that accompany lock and unlock of skodas is quite acceptable as an audiable indication of locking and unlocking the car. Starting a diesel engine up is much more unacceptable.

But is turning it on and off possible in your Karoq?

Dealer didn't do any of the mods I asked him to do - he said "his chief technician" was off for the day. Why am I not surprised.

Really? You've not mentioned it before ;)

I know, apologies, but it does spoil my enjoyment of my new 30 Grand car.

No need to apologise just joking, it would annoy me too.

I wouldn't disagree with you - I thought the audible beep on VAG cars is nothing for anyone to get upset about.

That said,  the EU Directive that covers this area states that cars with an immobilizer are only allowed to give an "optical" indication  (i.e. a flash) that they have been turned on.

So if a car 'chirps' it means that there is no immobiliser??

The Karoq has both an immobiliser AND an alarm - does this mean it has an alarm chirp that can be activated?

My understanding is that a car with an immobiliser may not have its "chirp" turned on if it is in the EU (this would apply to new cars from the date that the directives came into force - 2014 I think?)

This is why the option to turn it on is removed from menus that the driver can access.

It was posted here that  someone with VCDS or VagCom can get at the settings, so the ability to "chirp" is on the cars - it just isn't allowed to be activated in the EU.

Not bothered on Karoq but Yeti had beeps when alarm on/ off. Disabled it on menu as I often left in early hours of morning when working and it was quite loud. Karoq does not do it as delivered.
