Slave Cylinder question

Featured Replies

I am currently having a problem with my Octavia's clutch pedal sticking down intermittently (Mk 3 petrol).  I have spoken to my local independent garage who reckon it is either an issue with the Slave or Master Cylinder. They looked under the bonnet and stated that the Slave Cylinder was located externally to the Clutch therefore could be changed quite easily although they couldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem but would be much cheaper than changing the Master. However, having looked at some posts on here regarding this problem, posters have stated that the Slave is located inside the clutch housing - is anyone able to clarify as would be concerned if the mechanic got this wrong.

As far as I know it's a gearbox out job. Baby the same problem myset so saving up some pennies to have it fixed. Won't be cheap

@donny1972 You have the VRS which may have a different engine set up to the 1.4 TSI ?

On the smaller petrol engines(inc 1.4) the slave cylinder is external to the gearbox as your local independent garage has told you. Lift the bonnet and follow the pipe from the master cylinder and you'll find it on top of the gearbox.
