I'm changing the tailgate on my estate, and I have a new lock barrel to suit my key. Does anyone know how to remove the barrel from the existing lock mechanism?

 

I've got the spring and locking tab out, but the barrel won't come out. I think it is supposed to slide out and its just corroded in, but just wondering if there's a "thingy" I need to remove/loosen/move to allow it to slide out?

You’ve done everything right, but they do corrode in, and I think you need the key in the barrel to get all the tumblers in line.
