Mystery "snapped-off" object

Featured Replies

Hi all, after abusing the scout over the last week with the back seats down and transporting innumerable loads of logs and garden waste to the dump I found a plastic item in the rear footwell. It appears to be from the scout and to have snapped off somehow. I'd be grateful if somebody could give me an ID please from my photos and advise if it is important please... Cheers, John

Looks like the end cap from a metal seat runner.

Cheers for that. I just had a look at the backs of the front seat runners and none appear to have plastic caps on. Maybe they've all gone missing over time and the bit I found was the final one!

Just checked my 2014 Elegance model, which I've owned since it was 9 months old, and I've got no caps on the back of the seat runners either...so it's probably not that.

Nothing like these then?

No visible part number I take it?

Part of the trim for the seat release button in the top of the rear seats??

Difficult to read the part number but it looks like...

4FU 881 347

Just had another look and can now see that it is indeed part of a plastic end-cap fitted to the front seat runners. They are hard to see but they are there! I can now see where it snapped off from. This must have happened some time during our holiday in Wales when the Scout was loaded to the gunnels with the boot filled to capacity and the roof-box likewise. It seemed a good idea to stow various dog blankets etc inder the front seats. The cap must have broken when extracting this kit. I may/may not glue it back but it doesn't seem critical.

Agree that they are hard to see.  I've had another look at my car, and they are indeed there.  Apologies to all....

I only know because I had to replace mine! Snapped by clumsy feet - they're a bit vulnerable.

Think they cost pence, but tbh was so long ago I can't remember.

8E0 881 347E 9B9 is the part number for a pair, just found the pack as you have to buy a pair and I have one spare.

Available here (from a quick google):

Many thanks for that but a bit odd as the part that's broken off mine (and bears the 347 part number segment) came off the driver's seat offside (which I would have thought would be the RHS rail) but the link says it's for the Left rail! I'm totally confused!

Mystery solved. The part number above is from an unopened L/H part.

Seems like you can indeed buy them separately, and yes that part number is for the left hand rail. The right hand one is: 8E0 881 348E 9B9. Guess my supplier CBA to sell them separately.

So basically, you need one of each of the above part numbers (for each seat!), here's the R/H one:
