I attempted a kind of timeline of my Fabia - 56k warning

Featured Replies

This has been done in the context of being a total stranger to a site. I did it for a local site down here, so forgive the slight possible errors. :D I just copied into word for later repro. :)

Gonna be a long one this. Fancied something different as I was bored so I'd see how a timeline of my car in the last two years would look. Here goes, and I'll try to comment as much as possible on mods/changes, etc.

Feb 2004. Picked up "standard" Fabia from Scotland after 14 hour coach journey. Drove her back. mods were 15" GTI wheels and full limo tints. PD100 TDI engine.

New_furby1.jpg

This was in April 2004. Sold GTI wheels and got some League tantrum 17s. Mate photochopped in some blue neon effect. Silver door handle covers added in and large custom BRISKODA.net sticker for the rear screen

SKODA-NEONS.jpg

Powerflow dcatted exhaust next. Just decat pipe and backbox. Still goes through MOT fine like this.

mini-Exhaust%20Close.jpg

Then back to Jabbasport for them to retune the engine to 154bhp and fit my new eibach pro-kit dampers and springs. 30mm drop. Note front tints ripped out by me as dangerous at night and illegal

LowerCarATJabba.jpg

I still had time to get in the odd trackday though. This was Anglesey at the end of 2004. Great day had out.

Then managed to get a spoiler from Germany cheap, blagged the spraying by getting it done with boss's car which had a scrape. And also fitted the Fabia vRS oem rear spoiler (has a cutout) Had to get exhaust moved after too.

Next up was coilovers. Springs were nice but not giving me a low enough, mean enough look, so FK highsports were blagged new and cheap, so they went on for a 75mm (ish) drop all round. "RS" petrol cap cover didn't stay on long.

De-stripped the doors one morning. Much cleaner look

Then I switched to some oem looking 5 spokes. Still on the car now. They were in the coilovers section above too, but had to get this shot in,

DSCN8400.JPG

Then everything went a little crazy and I had this mad idea to do an engine swap, and stick in the diesel out of a Fabia vRS (130bhp one) - Matched up to a hybrid turbo, and big FMIC, and hopefully would get around 200+ bhp. Here's some pics

No engine.

DSCN9049.JPG

400 lb/ft clutch went in.

DSCN9051.JPG

Rough effort at cutting out bumper to vent the FMIC

DSCN9054.JPG

PD130 lump in.

DSCN9055.JPG

turn head around  Audi TT 312mm brakes in progress 8)

DSCN9082.JPG

Ahem, had to gut the car a bit

DSCN9155.JPG

Lovely wiring.... NOT :)

DSCN9159.JPG

One gutted car....

DSCN9163.JPG

Lovely sunny day, me with laptop trying to get engine running. :)

DSCN9222.JPG

Ooooh, shiny intercooler. Wish it were still as shiny now. :)

DSCN9244.JPG

312s fitted behind the 17s nicely. :V:

DSCN9245.JPG

This was the hybrid turbo I fitted, 2.5 V6 TDI gubbins with uprated components fitted to the 1.9 manifold.

HYBRID.JPG

While car was off the road I took it to a bodyshop to have skoda badge removed and all smoothed over. Also had some rust removed due to bad bodywork repair by previous owners.

badgeless%20rear.JPG

First time back on the road. Had to get number plates done up proper too.

Fabia%20FMIC%20shot.JPG

Then a trip back to Jabbasport who remapped it to 221bhp and 360 lb/ft.

JABBA%20WITH%20NUMBERSsmall.JPG

And here's just some random shots since then that I've found.

More recently I've swapped the exhaust so all that it is now is a 2.25" stainless pipe right from the downpipe to the tailpipe. For a diesel, it now sounds awesome. :V:

DSCN9806.JPG

Also had an ARB fitted at the back. Sorted out the handling really well. Tightens up the back end really nice. 8)

DSCN9808.JPG

And fitted some black backed lexus style clusters. Not usually a fan of lexus lights at all, on anything but Lexuses (lexi  ) but I thought these looked quite good.

Ahem, can't think of anything else at the moment,. Hope you liked it.

why not include the "dented" furby :D

Nope - strictly new furby only. Mk1 is consigned to the history books.

Wow... man.. u've done alot of work on ur car... it looks really awesome in the last pic.. Im speechless :D

How much do you reckon to have spent on it to date?

Copy and paste it into a project journal mate.

Wasn't it easier just to change turbo and injectors on pd100 as it's only difference from pd130 or so i think it is?

And then he goes and ruins it all with the ****-style lights

... and not a pikey mod in sight!! :D

Too Much

;)

Different driveshafts for the PD130 (and even they weren't strong enough) an the six speed gearbox that came with the new engine

  • Author

Yeah -pd130/150 engine had stronger bits inside. I could have gone for injectors and turbo and probably had 180ish. I wanted to go further. Not quite realising how far I'd need to go.

The conversion last summer set me back around £7k after all the extras I hadn't budgeted for were bought, i.e wiring looms, new hubs, new shaft, odd sensor here, fitting there. :D

what I dont get is why you didn't buy a VRS? bit of a waste of time.

what ever floats your boat i suppose.

what do you like best sex or your motor? (serious question...not taking pee)

motor doesn't have a time of the month, motor doesn't get a headache, motor doesn't mind when you see other motors without it knowing, motor won't get jealous when it sees you with other motors, etc etc, :D

It was just a case of maths and also fun. I like knowing my cars inside out. I'd have spent 10k+ on a vRS (probably cheapest) and then spent

in the same position i wouldn't care about the cars worth too.

good on ya.

With my ideas and plans, they'll be learning to drive in it. If the world hasn't run out of crude oil by then, and banned the combustion engine.

good luck with the insurance for them.

just out of intertest how mmuch do you pay for ins.

how old are you? exxcess? etc.guess all mods are declared?

  • Author

in order, too much due to crash 2 years ago, 27, ahem, £400 I think, Yup.

so what is the total cost of the ins.?

So what are your next plans? lsd, lpg, n2o ? Can't see anything more than that :)

Great story Jason, the only Fabia Vrs in the country that can tow legally.

You've been there and done it, and your not finished yet. Keep up the good work.

Thanks mate.

I don't wish to divulge my last premium, but it was a lot more than your average Fabia insurance for a 27 year old. Price to pay for modification tailored insurance and leaving a car on its roof. :)

Ftoje - No real desire to get LPG - I don't know why though. Perhaps its the large

The LSD is ace, I've got the Sachs organic clutch not the Kevlar one you got (lucky g*t :P )

My turbo is the TurboDynamics MD345, having had the misfortune of fitting the bl*dy thing to find the pipe was not pointing the same way Stu had to remove it again, rotate the pipework & refit it. It wasn't entirely fun and it was bl*dy freezing. Will stick that in a separate thread though :)

Just read that! :D Yeah, the kevlar clutch is awesome. It will easily outlive the rest of the car. Thrown everything at it and it's just smiled and carried on. :)

Interesting to hear what that turbo will do. I suspect it will be similar to mine. have you got a boost guage installed to monitor the boost during daily driving?
