OEM radio 1.8t 4x4 Elegance 1U2?

Featured Replies

OK, redundant question:

What head unit did my 2002 1.8t Elegance 4x4 1U2 come with from the factory?

When I got the car there was a 2 DIN space in the dashboard and a CD changer in the boot.

There was also a single DIN head unit and a single DIN dashboard pocket rolling around in there, but I'm told neither was an original feature.

I want to know what head unit it would originally have had so I can decide if I want to refit the correct one, or if I want to fit an aftermarket thing with all the features of the bridge on the Starship Enterprise.

Thanks for any info,

Sith

Forgot to mention trim level

My Elegance estate tdi came with factory single DIN tape player and cubbyhole under it and 6 disc changer in the boot. Some came with an upgrade of single DIN CD player with cubbyhole, and also some came with factory sat nav double DIN and 6 disc CD changer. Hope that helps?

@SithDowell - Mine was also "Symphony" radio-cassette head and 6 CD stacker in the boot, LHS behind the cover that accesses the LH tail light cluster.

as above for my 1.9tdi

Most of the Octavias came specced from new with a Symphony single din unit and a cubby hole below and most had a changer in the boot, like this - I hope Pete does not mind me raiding his build thread, but it is the 8th post down on this page.

You could spec the MFD1 nav unit which was double din as an extra from the factory, but to be honest, most current double din units will outspec it massively today, the only issue is that double din nav units are not cheap unless you go the android route.

The other issue with the mainstream units - kenwood, alpine etc, is the cost of map updates, which is where the android units start to look attractive.

Thanks so much for all the replies, that's exactly what I needed to know.

Had a wee look for an OE replacement but tbh I reckon the best route is what kentphil1 recommended and go for an up-to-date android touchscreen 2din unit.

Thanks again dudes and dudesses :)

I vote you set Phasers to stun, open hailing frequencies, scan for life forms and beam up any sexy green women.

I still have my Symphony fitted. The only reason I haven't swapped it out is that modern radios look awful by comparison.
