So week one of ownership of the Fun i have lowered it all round by 40mm and put some nice 15' rims on it and it handles and drives a lot firmer and looks so much better.

 

BUT there is an issue.. after the first day it would go into limp mode hitting a wall at 3000rpm in each gear. diagonoised as a dirty MAP sensor. Cleaned it and was fine for around 75 miles then came back again. So replaced it and literally with in 15 miles has intermitantley reapeared.. any one had similar issues on the 1.6 petrol lump?

Since you have mentioned the body lowering job, do you find it related to the "limp mode" in some way ? Or was it just an introduction ?

 

When you say "diagonoised as a dirty MAP sensor" you mean you've used a VAG-COM interface and you've got a related error? If yes, what error code? If not, what logic was behind calling a dirty MAP sensor?

 

Felicia Fun engine (AEE) computer has not a "limp mode" per se but rather it's a result of bad reading the intake air flow and/or intake air temperature due to a dirty/faulty MAP sensor, bad wiring of the MAP sensor or unmetered air past MAP sensor.

No it happened before the lowering so not linked at all

 

i took it my friends independant vw garage and he scanned it and said it was the map not sure of the exact code. Also he showed me the old map and when you wiped it it was covered in oil/ dirt so it was replaced with a new one.

Hi Ken, so we have changed the MAP, also the temp sensor as it was reading wrong and then removed and cleaned the throttle body. was fine for 24 hours (20 miles) then has started again. I'm thinking its the throttle body as it was super dirty...

After cleaning the throttle body it is recommended to reset it using VAG-COM.

 

Now, aside of MAP sensor, the second possibility of low power over 3000 rpm is an exhaust restriction. Usually it is the catalytic converter but check all exhaust system.

Hi, So we replaced the temp sensor as it was showing a fault as was the map so we relced that as well. The issue went away for a day then returned so have replaced the throttle body and reset the faults and it seems perfect now so probelm solved :)
