Columbus Button

Featured Replies

Hi, the media button has popped off my Columbus media player. IS this an easy job to replace or should i buy a new button,

any advice appreciated.

How did it come off? Is the button broken or the holder it clips into?

In any event, you're probably going to need to remove the screen, disassemble it, and access the rear of the buttons to clip it back on providing it's not broken.

Hi,

It has popped off, ill have a go at taking it off later and see what happened to it.

You'll need to remove the screen,  remove the metal plate on the rear of the screen, remove the screen pcb, and then youll have access to the rear of the buttons. Once there you'll need to press the centre moving section of the media button forwards while pressing the front of the button back into place.

how do you remove that metal plate? really struggling

Is yours a microphone button unit (top right on the front display)?

yes, got the plate off and into the buttons, but it looks like a little spring is missing, I reattached the front of the button to the back, and there is a little white plastic bit which has no spring under it, the others do. Can you replace that bit? the media button does not spring back as you can see here, sure i saw a little spring come off when it failed. any idea what or how ro repair or what to buy to fix?

any help appreciated.

There's no spring inside the button mechanisms. The only reason those others are springing back up is because the face of the buttons is on the surface where you've placed the button mechanism. The media button without the front face isn't touching the surface so doesn't react.

If you hold the rear of the button mechanism in place, the front part should just clip back on unless it's ronnied.

the little black bit that sticks out and pressed the white bit is snapped off. bloody CD player wont work now, car is 10 years old, changing it next year, fed up of the little issues i am suffering wth now.

can you get new button rears?

I have some buttons here (complete sets and odd spares) but I checked last night and don't have a Columbus set for the left hand side. I only have a set for the right hand side, but I have some for the RNS510 which are slightly different (matt chrome surround instead of shiny, and a different font). I'll check in the workshop later and see if I have a scrap unit with good buttons but usually I remove them if they're good.

I have this I've just removed from a scrap unit. It's a bit marked but it's nowhere near as bad as it looks in the pic.
