Octavia 2017 "Component protection active"

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Had a quick search and could only find one other post about this, but started the car this morning (17 plate Octavia, owned the car for 2 months) pulled off my drive and noticed on the screen along the top it said "component protection active", car felt fine but the radio was muted,  pulled over turned the radio off and on, nothing, turned the engine off and on twice and it cleared, carried on to work as normal

Has anyone else had this issue at all?  Seems a lot of posts related to Audi's on this when searching on Google, but could only find the one Octavia related post

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Alex

I’ve had it once. Did a power cycle of the ignition and it went away. Hasn’t happened again and has only happened once in a little over a year of having the car. If it happens again I’ll call my dealer but for now I’m not going to bother. I’ve put it down to a software gremlin.

Usually address claim on the bus didn't happen within the specified period.

I had it once when I was messing about with OBDeleven. I think it threw up a fault code for the airbag. It took a few goes of cycling the ignition on and off and trying to clear the fault with OBDeleven. Never been on again.

I’ve had the same on mine. It’s a 2019 reg. anyone got any ideas ?

As above, cycle the ignition a few times but slowly to give everything a chance to read codes etc.  On a car that age its probably just a canbus confusion and should be reet with a couple of starts.  If it persists then a trip to the dealer.

you'd wanna be careful, cp locks out after 8 hrs or something like that so get it into a dealer ASAP

Didn't realise that!

'Shirley' they would fit it as part of warranty?

Mine also 17 reg, I saw that message a few times last year, it cleared after a few miles and a restart. I was going to mention it at the next service but when I also had starting issues I took the car to the dealer.  The battery was tested and found faulty.  As part of the warranty replacement Skoda kept the car overnight to check for unusual power use.   They found the radio was not turning off properly and draining the battery when the car was parked.   I think the component protection message was triggered by low battery voltage.

The cure was a new battery and a firmware update for the infotainment.  No problems in the last 6 months and 10K miles.
