Kodiaq questions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just picked my pre registered Kodiaq Edition 190 with 19 miles on the clock, lovely!!!. Trying to get my head round everything. Firstly, the dealer told me my fairly old Samsung phone will not wirelessly charge, I need a special holder. Any ideas on what they are and where to get one?.

Also on the home page on the infotainment screen, mine seems to be set on Nav/ radio/ phone status, is there any way to change this. In the settings menu the " show clock in standby mode" is ticked but the line is darkened and does nothing. Can I change the home screen at all?.

 Thanks,

Andy.

The wireless charging feature has been removed due to technical / compliance issues, cars already built and in the UK are supposed to have had the feature disabled. There is still some confusion though, some have noticed the wireless charging pad is missing, others have it there but instead the signal booster has been disabled.

Are you sure the wireless charging pad is present?

Hi

My Kodiaq Edition, has the wireless charging pad, but mines is a 2017 model.  Not sure if the wireless charging works though as we dont have a phone capable phone of the wireless charging.

If the wireless charging feature is fitted the rubber pad where you'd locate the mobile phone has an image of a charging phone on it...

Those cars that were reworked, or that had the feature removed should have had the plain rubber mat installed at the same time.

There are two options for displaying the time / clock, does selecting one grey out the other or vice-versa?

Thanks Silver 1011,

You would think as my previous car was a l&k 16 plate 190 superb, I would know my around the screens, but alas, I have not downloaded the manual online, so am looking at the skimpy book that comes with the car and explains nothing.

Firstly the wireless charging. When I picked up my car last Saturday the dealer said wireless charging for some phones is available, if not get a clamp thingy that goes on top of the mat, I have the mat with the wireless charging motiff on it. It is not really important, so will carry on with a lead.

Secondly, thanks for the screen shot, my menu on the car is different, but was able to work out with my options what to do.

I suppose I had better download the manual as there are loads of things I am not sure about, is it a big file?.

Reading comments on this site, no 2 cars seem the same, is this Skoda going forward.

My car was ex showroom, they had it 3 months, registered it for 2 days then I put a deposit on it at a good price, it's got about £2,000 of extras on it. I drove out the garage with 19 miles on the clock( after my test drive!!).

I find if you have just the drivers window open you get a terrible wind noise, but lower the passenger window a bit and it stops. Annoying though.

How is consumption on average, only done 400 miles but showing 40 , I know this will improve as the engine gets looser.

Had my doubts about swapping the superb, but I think I will have more fun in the Kodiaq.

Thanks again, and will probably be back with more questions.

 Andy

I hate to be the Prévoyance of bad news, but the online version is just a soft copy of what you have in the printed manual. The best way to get answers is either ask questions on here or via Skoda customer services.

ak1956 there should be a flimsy ‘quick start guide’ and a full manual with the car in the Škoda folder. Did you receive this with the car? If not get the dealer to supply you one.

Ok,ok, it is probably me being thick!!. I bought a SIM card(vodaphone)and inserted into SIM card slot, could not get any connections and kept asking for network key. Rang vodaphone who told me I should have activated it first, despite me asking this question when buying it and being told to just put it in the car.

Went to get the SIM card out but have no idea how, it is not showing, and being a bit slow on technical issues do not know if and how to retrieve this SIM card.

 Any (gentle) ideas?.

Shop bought Vodafone SIM’S are normally preactivated, but If they are not you can activate them online at https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Getting-started-and-upgrading/Activate-a-new-SIM/903102712 if you’re in UK if you’re in Ireland there’s a different site.

If  you look at the SIM card slot you should see a tiny bit of the SIM card sticking out. Push the SIM Card gently inwards and it should pop out.

Just gone through the Vodaphone website, but it keeps telling me I have to phone , they told me I have to put it into another device to activate it, which I would do, but I cannot see anything of the SIM card to push in, so am presuming the card has gone in wrong. Am I screwed or is there a way to remove it

Now, Don't laugh, but I took the Mrs out for a meal somewhere we Don't usually go, and parked for the first time in this car park, only to find when we came back it was shut up and locked till Monday morning, so I can't do anything with the car till Monday.

What size of SIM did you put into the slot? I only ask because I put in the standard size and it wouldn't  work. Read the manual and it said it takes micro so put that in then had to use tweezers to retrieve the card. Can you see any of the SIM?

Sorry but this really did make me laugh. You are not having a great weekend.

If you look on the image, you’ll see the white edge of the SIM card if you push it gently it should come out, provided you used the micro SIM pop out from the Vodafone multi SIM card format card. Any Vodafone shop should also be able to activate the SIM for you.

Bad luck on the car park. I hope they don’t charge you for the weekends parking.

I recently got a sim from 3 and it worked straight away. The only bit that flummoxed me was registering the app to keep tabs on the amount of data used. Im sure it was on here, someone informed me to register online and the code would be sent to the car ( no need to install sim in another device to get text with code). Text duly appeared and read in car and registration complete no problem.

I’ve used the 3 sim but only the 3Gb one to see how much we used it. We use it all the time (Wi-fi hotspot - 4 kids on YouTube/games and Mrs on FB) so signed up with my mobile provider EE for a data only SIM of 5Gb for £10 per month, I can also transfer our family data to it if running low, for example when updating maps this month.

Ok, update time, got my car back this morning, no problems luckily. Tried connecting to the SIM, but message" SIM not detected" keeps coming up, so I tried again to retrieve the SIM. I cannot see any of it and tweezers are to big to go into the slot, so I think the SIM is stuck in there. Any way to get it out( maybe take the front off) or is this a visit to the dealers?

Checked with Vodafone, they said it is activated but not being used.

If you've inserted the SIM but can no longer see it then it's been pushed in too far.

The head unit that houses both the SIM and SD cards will likely need removing, but you need a special tool, note the two rectangular slots on each of the bottom corners as seen in the earlier picture.

Maybe the sim you installed is the smallest type, micro I think, and the sim slot is for the larger type.

try tweezers again or take the car over very rough ground until it pops out......

I think it will require taking the front panel of the unit off to get the SIM bacK. Probably a trip to dealer unfortunately. Good you got the car back.

From the manual a SIM card size mini (standard size 25x15 mm) must be used.

To remove the SIM card

Press on the inserted SIM card.
The SIM card “jumps” into the eject position. › Remove the SIM card from the slot.

Thanks for all your replies/suggestions. The SIM I put in is the right size and correct way in, but I think i must have pushed it to far when initially trying to install. I have carefully tried very thin screwdriver, wire, and anything that looks as if it might work, but do not want to jiggle something sharp and metallic inside the SIM slot and ruin it.

Will ask around and see if anyone has taken the front off before or has the tool to do it, if not I will have to bite the bullet and go to a dealer.

Thanks again everyone, this site is so good, will let you know what happens.

Oh, does anyone know wether the special tool is just 2 screwdrivers.

If you pushed it too far then it was the wrong size SIM. I made the same mistake. Getting it back out was fortunately quite easy.

You need need a strip of old credit card. I used a strip of the card that the SIM pushed out from.

Put it a line of superglue along the leading edge of the strip and leave it 30s or so to become tacky.

Push the strip into the SIM slot so the glued edge makes contact with the stuck SIM card. Leave it a few seconds to give the glue time to bond.

Pull the strip back out and it should pull the SIM card with it.

I practiced first on a flat surface to work out how much glue to apply to make sure I didn’t use too much and stick the strip to the SIM slot, and to work out how long to leave things for to get it to bond properly.

It worked first time for me and was nice and quick and easy.

Sounds a dangerous method, the superglue could be deposited on the connector contacts leading to unreliable or non operation. You could also push the card in further and even end up gluing it in permanently.

I did once push in a micro sim instead of a standard sim once, I used the wire ends of two resistors to grab hold of it and carefully lever/pull it out.

If the card is not sticking out proud by around 3 mm then either the wrong size sim was inserted or it was forced in the wrong way although that is unlikely (but not impossible).

Unless you know what you are doing, I would be very careful as its very easy to damage the sim connector, and that would be a very expensive mistake.

When I did it, the card was as far in as it could possibly go already so couldn’t go any further. There is little risk of covering the contacts with glue as you can’t get in that far - the SIM card is covering them. It’s safer than poking bits of conductive wire over the contacts and risking shorting them in my opinion.

There is though the risk of accidentally glueing something inside the slot though, hence use it as a last resort, practice first, and use at own risk. When I practiced, the glue doesn’t smear anywhere because superglue is quite viscous and there’s only a tiny amount on the end of the card so it can only contact the stuck SIM, and it worked first time. Your mileage may vary.
