Has anyone had the latest tensioner fail?

Featured Replies

My car is in as we speak having the latest tensioner put in, but it made me think.

Has the 'K' variant ever failed on anyone?

Had the latest chains and tensioner fitted around 2 years ago and so far I have done over 40k miles since without any problems. Hopefully it will stay that way. My car is now on 92k miles.

Well that's good to hear! I have a quick question mate. Did an indy do it or a Skoda dealer? Mines in as we speak, just spoke to the mechanic and he said he thinks if he does it that the electronics or the software will need resetting, which he hasn't the software for and could cause errors? You have any of that?

I had my local indi do the job for me. Don't know about any software issues, but I do know they have a fair bit of VAG equipment to cope with each job on my car. Maybe a more informed member here can answer that question, although I can't see how changing chains and tensioner can upset any electronics or software!

I don't either mate! He's a new garage so probably just a little on the cautious side :) He contacted the skoda dealer nearest me, and he was told my car 'didn't need the new tensioner, it was the older model!'. Although mine is literally the most commonly affected - 10 plate mk2 fl ccza engine. So i don't know at this point.

I replaced these parts just in case, after hearing horror stories about blown engines. As you can see at the bottom of my posts, my car is a late 2011, in fact December 2011. I was still not going to risk it, as I intend to keep the car for some time.  Skoda garages/dealers, just don't want to admit there is a problem anyway. For more piece of mind, I spent roughly £600 to get the job done.
