Gen 2 Haldex oil and filter change

Featured Replies

I'm looking to change the haldex oil and filter on my pre FL 4x4, is this as simple as it looks? Hopefully its just drain from the bottom bolt, replace filter and then fill until oil is flowing out of the fill hole. Do I need to run the car to re-fill the filter and re-check the oil level?

There's a Haldex drain plug and a differential drain plug.  many don't realise there is 2.

Remove the diff & haldex filler plugs first.  They are often very tight - much tighter than the drain.

does this help?

Thanks Brad, I should have updated this as I managed to get it done over the weekend. I'd read the posts about accidently filling the diff with Haldex oil, a quick search found a diagram with the correct fill and drain plugs for both.

Be sure to check the o ring comes out when removing the old filter, mine stayed inside the housing but was easier removed with fingers. Refilling was a pain!
