"Ignition" dead

Featured Replies

2012 Octavia Estate Elegance 1.6.     I was checking the fuse for the heater fan and measuring the voltage on the fuse socket when the instrument cluster went dead.     I have an idea there was a bleep or two but cannot be sure.   Now if I turn the key nothing happens.    I have side lights and interior lights and the central locking works with the key and with both remote fobs but nothing else - no fogs, no horn no headlights.    All fuses are intact and all the relays click when taken out and tested.  Battery is good.    There is no power to the ignition switch though there is power on one wire to the connection block under the steering column into which the ignition switch cable plugs.  However, there is no power on that socket.   I have removed all the front trim so as to examine the looms and also under the bonnet and there is no sign of mice!      Has something gone wrong with its brain?   I cannot see that applying a volt meter to a minor fuse socket would so make it lose its mind.       The heater fan has been intermittent and has not been working at all for the past couple of days but it looks healthy enough.

My octavia has developed the exact same fault. What was the fix in the end? I'm baffled as I've tested everything as you did?

With so many functions no longer getting power, I would check the fuses in the fusebox next the air filter under the bonnet.

The fuses there feed the smaller fuses inside the car.

The OP made that post in August 2018; they last visited the site some 18 months ago. Do you really expect them to reply, or even have that car?

Helpful thanks
