Driveshaft issues!!

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Im having some issuses with my octavia breaking driveshafts its on coilovers KW variant 1s and its set at the height they are shipped im not sure on the height in a measurement but its not to low and goes over humps fine. The problem i got it i keep breaking passenger side driveshafts and now im reading its because its too low?? Has anyone else had this issue? Im wondering is it best to raise the car or get engine spacers? 15mm? I would prefer not to raise the car because i like the ride height but just wanted to know if anyone else had the same issues and what you did to solve them.

Loads of people do write up on issues but then never write up what they do to solve it.

Thanks

Daniel

Which end of the shaft are you breaking?

Box end or CV end, and when you say "keep breaking them" how often do you really mean

Hi mate

Im breaking the gearbox end every time and its about every 6 months ive been looking into engine spacers to raise it up hoping to put less stress on them? But i cant find an answer as to if this will solve it or not?

Thanks

Daniel

Thats the opposite end to what I was expecting I'll be honest but when my passenger side CV joint fell apart last month I did read up that they seem to shed left hand driveshafts a lot more often than right for some reason.

I can only assume thats from UK roundabouts.

Spacers will help without a doubt, the Mk4 boys use them all the time and a lot of them are slammed, same with Leons.

I've never had a driveshaft problem before in 18yrs of car ownership and most have beeb lowered, until the CV I mentioned earlier and my vrs is standard suspension with just 76k on the clock so I'm wondering if its a skoda "thing"

Might pay to see if Leon Cupra R, R32 or TT are compatible and of any better quality

Since having my vrs most of the front end has pretty much falling apart and despite what people say about them being a mk4 golf with a different badge it just doesnt seem to be true.

A lot of the components are of a lower quality and lives seem to be much shorter than the rest of VAG equivalent.

My advise would be space the engine, do your sump a favour as well and look for higher quality items for the cars I mentioned earlier.

Be interesting to see from underneath the car as to what angles your driveshafts are actually sitting at
