Rear passanger window dropped in to door casing

Featured Replies

Hi. The rear passanger window on my 2007 Octavia has just dropped in to the door casing. How easy is it to get in to this area? I've no idea what's happened yet but it's not connected the the mechanism and looks to have fallen off.

Take of the door trim panel (aka Door Card) by inserting a removal tool or a padded screwdriver around the edge. There may be screws too at the bottom but I don't remember. In the centre off of the metal panel you will see a hole. A plastic rod in there is used to connect the glass to the window lift mechanism. The rod usually breaks and drops down inside. The rod and the outer plastic need to be replaced. Difficult to describe how to do it here but (never thought I would say this) it is shown well with pictures and text in the Haynes Manual.

Thanks Pikpilot. I'll take a look tonight. I've not got a manual but maybe i might find a version on the net or I'll pop down to Halfords and have a read in the shop :)

Here is how, without pictures as I am lacking a third hand:

Remove the door handle cover

Unscrew the two large screws (Torx) within the pits

Remove the speaker and button assembly (use a flat screwdriver)

Unscrew the small screw (partially hidden by the handle)

Firmly grip the door panel and pull. Use a large blade screw driver if necessary

Aging clips may break during this operation: have some spare ones

Remove the plastic sealing bar (toward the inside of the car)

Remove the window (not so easy, feasible); tilt the window so that you will extract it by its smaller side through the door aperture. If it does not work this way, tilt the window the other way

Go fishing for the plastic pin

Disassemble the pin

Make sure that the lifting part move freely along its guide (2 grips) and lower the lifting part

Remove the plastic cap below the motor assembly

Reinstall the pin half the way through the window' hole (large cylinder first, locking pin next)

Install a cord through the pin hole

Insert the window inside the door using the cord to control its movements

Lift the window and slide it through the guiding rail

Lower the window down to the lifting part (check through the uncapped hole)

Pull the cord

Adjust position if necessary and clip the pin within the lifting part (apply a gentle push on top of the window)

Check the movement of the window (should move freely)

Reinstall the sealing tab and the door panel

It took me an hour and half to complete this task, including 30 min fishing the pin with a metallic wire.
