Audi S4 2003 model,any good???

Featured Replies

Anyone have any experience of these?

Also anyone know where i could either hire one or a garage who would allow an extended test drive?

not looking for a brand new one but have been driving my brothers S3 for the last couple of weeks and would like to see which one i prefer.

So anyone work at a friendly Audi Dealer here????

um nice car..

quick in straight line. understeers and ride hard. much more reliable than the old 2.7 bi turbo.

better built than M3 less **** than M3 but M3 drives better.

You really should buy a Merc.... got a lovely E55 AMG @ the right money... and 500hp is mighty persuasive when you have tried it....

yeah have driven the S4, V8 sounds great. totally different from the S3, much faster i would have said. traction is great due to the 4wd

i can imagine how persuasive 500hp is!!!

Would love one for my trip to Le Mans this year, the E55 AMG that is but for my everyday use i want a car thats good for fast A and B roads.

The Boxster is great i have to say but i just fancy a change at the moment.

I'll probably change my mind again like i have done too many times over the last 2 months!!!!

Wouldn't have had you down as an auto man, Paul!

defo cant beat a good semi auto.... (true semi or an auto with paddles/tip)

had loads of them.... dont get me wrong a bad auto is terrible... but a decent 5/6/7 speed or cvt box is great.

I have experience of the BMW 5 speed tiptronic (or whatever BMW call it) it isn't bad at all, you can blip between downshifts to help balance the car.

Still, I'd always prefer a manual transmission.

I drove the MR2 Spyder with a SMT gearbox, that was fun, it blips the throttle for you and makes you feel like some pro driver!

As for the S4, yeah, I've heard it's a very good car. A little heavy perhaps, but any big saloon car will be.

I think I'd go for the M3 or the S4 over the E55, but that's just my personal view. (although E46 M3 was only a 2 door, and if we were talking 2 door cars for 30k+ I'd suggest a 993).

I considered a old shape C class AMG C43 some time ago, but never drove it (it was in Houston - 4 hours from me).

Good luck and happy car hunting!

what about an old RS4?

Have thought about an RS4 but have heard running costs are huge, even more than my Porsche.

I was also thinking that as these cars all have big V6/V8's up front which dosen't do a great deal for the handling.

What about a A4 Sportline Quattro 1.8T or new 2.0T engine.

Find a nice spec one and the money saved over buying a S4 or RS4 could be spent on engine/suspension modifications to take power up to 280bhp.

Just a thought though.

Kenny, whats your A4 like to live with?

holden hsv gts? one in autotrader for £10k!

funny you should ask Alex.

to live with yeah i like it, it does everything i wanted from a car, reliable, handles ok, i like the look of it, built well and most importantly traction.

after the week or weather up here im so glad to have the 4wd. i just found, even in damp days the octy was just too powerful for fed with 230ish bhp.

on the power front i am actually planning some things, there are bolt on turbos to get easily 300bhp and they arent too expensive either.

i picked mine up for around £17k it was 11 months old at the time and had maybe 12k on the clock

PM me if you need anything
