Glow plug fail - P0672 fault code

Featured Replies

TLDR question: should I change all 4 glow plugs, or just the bad one? Which brand?

2.0l CRDI did struggle to start a bit in the cold, but not with too much difficulty. This week the "check engine" light came on and gave the fault code p0672, which is an error with the 2nd cylinders glow plug. (Last number is the cylinder number).

Fantastic guide: here with good instructions.

Pulling the boot off the plug was the trickiest part due to the heat, pipes, wiring etc. In the end I looped some ribbon over the plug which gave a nice grip and they popped off easily.

Cyl4 = 0.6ohms

Cyl3 = 0.6ohms

Cyl2 = 1246ohms

Cyl1 = too much around to bother pulling

Clearly Cyl2 plug has failed.

Any recommendations on plugs or are they pretty much the same? Bosch?

Change all or just the bad one? If just the bad, do I need to make sure I match the resistance of all or is that standard for skoda?

I’ve always changed all 4.

Don't worry about matching the resistance of the others, there’s a big span of acceptable values used in the diagnostic checks.

I've just had this code pop up. Testing and replacing the plugs would be beyond me, does anybody know what it might cost to get sorted at a garage.

Also is it worth just resetting the code and seeing if it reappears?

I tried resetting but it just came back.

It's fiddly to do, just remember the vacuum the crap around the plug before unscrewing. Pulling the caps does take quite some force, but i found using a clove hitch to tie a ribbon round the plug and tugging it off does the trick quite well, :D

Not sure how much a garage would cost sorry, let us know how much if you find out.
