Rattly doors under low speeds

Featured Replies

Hi

I have just bought a 2015 Skoda rapid and it does exactly what it says on the tin. One petty irritation I've found is the door panels seem to rattle at low speeds...has anyone else had this problem and know a fix

Cheers Jason

yes and no.

my right rear door rattles now and then.

haven't bothered trying to stop it.

It's annoying and if I'm correct it's the rubber seals, Gummi Pflege seems to sort it for a while.

Mines not that rattle @MickA

It's a hard banging noise from the door (hinge maybe) over rough bumps.

The other one I had that sounds like its coming from the doors as well is the front top seatbelt mount.

If the door cards are rattling on a used car, maybe they've been off (for window replacement?) and not replaced correctly?

Cheers mikA I thought that was the problem too

I have that annoying sounds, get pretty intense when I drive it in some ****ty roads and the massive speedbumps in my country. I'll check it with the dealership soon.

Cheers CrisBora good idea let me know if you get any success.

Have you found out what it is that rattles? Inside the door panel (door cards) the whole door card(s) or the whole door(s) against the jamb seals?

Did you try treating the seals if the latter?

Mine is weather related, definitely door window surround moving against rubbers, seems worst when cooler and dry rather than warm or wet. A rubbing rather than a rattle though.

I asked to the dealership, but there was no solution to what they called a “comfort noise” like they do with the dsg rattles.

so, I took apart the door card. It’s pretty simple. You’ll need:

10 wrench for the lower look of the door card

a pryer for the door card itself

T30 bit for the 2 bolts hidden under the handle (start from the cushion, with ease. Pull gently.

lift the plate where’s the window switch, it will come off easy, then disconnect the cable. Push the tab, and pull off.

With the pryer start pulling the bracket till you have loosen the door card.

Then, grab the white tab to remove the wire from the door pull. That’s it.

The door card only haves a little block to avoid rattle. So low cost here!

To make it less rattly, I went to a car audio shop and purchase some deadening material.

Picked this.

1 gladen aero foam, the cheapest of the line and thinnest. For the border.

1 gladen aero wave, to avoid the contact in the areas where is little to none gap between the door card and the door.

Picked other, but I’ll make a topic for upgraded front speakers.

the door card have some channel where I put some of the gladen aero foam.

All the border using aero foam,

Larger areas aero wave

Top of the door card aero foam to avoid contact with the edge by the window.

Aero foam where the door handle ( closest part of the door card to the metal)

Couldn’t upload more images but you’ll see or pm if you want the other pictures.

Re install and you’ll be rattle free. At least in the rear doors.

Went for a drive and total improvement. Now I have to do the front door but I’m waiting for some Morel components to replace the factory speakers. Should be similar to the rear one. At least I have plenty of material to improve the from door cards as well.

Sorry for any misspelling, English is not my native language

cheers!!!
