Ford Ka Mk1 - What a fun little car!

Featured Replies

We've had this 2007 Zetec Climate model since 2009 and I've started driving it to work once a week just to keep it ticking over, the battery charged and to stop things seizing up. And what an absolute hoot it is to drive! It has been well used and abused over the years - Mrs T commuted in it for 2 years through Lincoln city centre, our eldest lad learned to drive in it and then used it to commute to work for 6 months when he finished Uni, and now our daughter is learning to drive in it. It has some battle scars and the dreaded rust around the filler cap. It has benefitted from some mods - I picked up a full Ka Collection leather interior for £100, it is sitting on Eibach lowering springs, has 20mm rear axle spacers and Sport Ka front brakes (which are a PITA if you get a front tyre puncture as the 13" spare won't fit over them (and yes I know this from painful experience!)). I haven't had this much fun in a car since I sold the Citigo Monte Carlo, but even that wouldn't keep up in the corners, although the engine was so much better. Now imagine this with one of Ford's 1-litre 3-pot engines under the bonnet, ideally the 140bhp version; that would be one very awesome supermini! And it looks fantastic (yes, I know it is a bit Marmite but we love it!).

glad you are enjoying it and I hate to put a downer on it, but I dread to think the outcome should you have a prang in one, we regularly cut these up on drills with the fire service, they aren't the toughest things

I am old enough to remember adverts claiming Volvo were 'the safest cars in the world'. I also remember a prominent car magazine of the time saying in a review 'what would you prefer, a car that was very safe in an accident, or a car that would have avoided the accident in the first place?'

I would rather be in a Ka than a 205! Or any other similar vintage Peugeot!

You obviously need a lecture on the benefit of features !

Character (as they say) is sooo yesterday :))

We had one of the Belladonna ie purple ones.  Basically a chassis shortened old model fiesta so good handle.

Safety, much worse than a current Dacia and for that reason I am out.
