Whichever is cheapest.  Both good oils.

What about the stuff that others buy on ebay?  Quantum?

I was reading the service thread pinned at the top and they reckon 507.00 and must be dpf certified additive's which both these oils have, I never usually cheap out on service so cost wouldnt really be a factor hopefully lol

Has the pollen filter been done - a classic overlooked part!  Theres also the fuel filter, dont know the interval for this though

Yep, I've planned for both, I'm probably going to do them anyways as there inexpensive anyways regardless of interval, being remapped too the fuel filter would probably be better changed, and just clean the K&N panel filter.

The Quantum is 507.00 spec and good oil but if you want to spend extra that's your choice.

HERE

look out with too much oil on the K&N.  it will kill your MAF

I'm just gonna go the extra a's touch wood I've gotten no bother with her when I the expensive stuff (LOL) as it's the PD BMN engine too, can the k&n just be blowing with air? I just bought it 4 months ago or down when need cleaned would you think?

Thanks

Quantum if what the factory uses and I've been using it on VAG cars for 20+ odd years. Not overly expensive and always quality stuff.

I was just going by what was recommended in the book, and just checking here for recommendations thanks!

I would use the Quantum Longlife 3 and change it yearly, you can get it on EBay for 25 quid delivered or thereabouts, it used to be made by Castrol but is now made by Fuchs, changed last year.

Generally "the book" won't recommend a brand.  just a specification.  In this 504.00/507.00.  As long as the oil is "VW507.00 Approved" then you're good to go.

Yea it was a sticker under the bonnet that suggested by Skoda to go with Shell Helix, I'll send a picture of it tomorrow on here.

thanks!

I know the one you mean.  I have one too.  That's not a "book" - that's marketing and part of the pricing agreement between Skoda & Shell when they were the factory supplier. :-)  When I worked at Goodyear we sold tyres to the local manufacturers at near cost because we had research that proved that most owners replaced tyres with what was on there from the production line.  So our gains were that initially we got more tyres through the production line and the financial profit came later when they wore out.

Oh I see should’ve seen that earlier lol I’ll have a look at the quantum and edge to see as there’s probably no point going to the bother of looking for helix as the others are more popular, tell me this could you suggest a good set of tires? I’ve tried Michelin Pilot Sport 3s lasted 11kmiles with bulges and tirewalls failing, as well as easily punctured now on continental  sport contact 2s and to be be honest the fronts already look about 40% tread wear left after two months.

thanks

I'm a Michelin Fanboi all the way, so I'd say PS4.  CSC2 are a fairly old tyre now (out of production??) - I'm surprised they didn't have sidewall issues as they are only 2 ply IIRC.

I honestly have no idea how you Northern Hemisphere lads go through tyres so quick - except you all seem to run low pressures around 32psi.

My CSC2 lasted 40,000km with x-rotations every 10,000km.

Michelin Primacy 70,000km

Bridgestone RE050A  35,000km

Conditions down here a a bit different, so maybe local knowledge would be more helpful.

I will admit maybe running 330lbs+ through the front wheels probably won’t help either lol But coming towards the winter I’ll probably will be looking for a new set for front.

For my 2p's worth I've been running Castrol Edge for the last 4 years I've had my VRS (albeit mines a TFSi) and it's been more than up to the job, I'm just having a service done this coming week and a fresh 4l was picked up last night for the oil change!

As for tyres, I've been running Vredestein Ultrac Sesantas for the last few years and they have been great (on 18" Zeniths). They perform really well in the dry and the wet, but I had afresh set on in autumn last year and they were great in the snow over the winter as well, markedly better than other brands I've had in the past. They do wear quickly, but to be fair, comparable to other performance tyres (and I've had the lot over the years Toyo's, Michelins, Yoko's etc.) they are no worse, just not as good as endurance style tyres as you would expect.

The only issue for me is that they seem to be harder to get hold of these days.

Tbh, I had the Barum Bravuris tyres from National about 3 times in a row which were keenly priced and never missed a trick so I'd have stuck with them if it weren't for the fact that the branch near me  in Farnborough couldn't balance tyres if you held a gun to their head! Last set was from Reading who could balance okay, but only cos I happened to be over there; too far for just tyres.

Id second you on the Barum Tyres as I ran them for years on my Citroen Xantia and C5 where I could get two 195/65/15 for around £90.

My current Octavia had a full set on when I bought it but when I went to replace them in 245/45/17 they're as expensive as some cheaper big name brands and just not worth it... I've since fitted Falken which are realy good and National Tyres do a Rovello which I've been really impressed with but then I'm not pushing the car or tyres to their limits
