Rattly dashboard / pillars

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have read around on here with different owners reporting different issues, but I have a very rattly dashboard and front pillars, especially the left one which if the road is anything but perfectly smooth, it all gets going, the Octavia is a 17 plate with 13000 miles on it, and its 13 months old (I have owned it for 3) but how bad do owners on here leave it before booking it under a warranty issue?  I am currently doing the turn the radio up to drown it out, but just interested to see how bad other posters cars are and if this is something that will get progressively worse over time (I accept that as the car gets older you get new noises and all that, but its the one major gripe I have with the car)

Also the dash is quite rattly upto 2000RPM, but thats mainly first thing when the car is cold, seems to pass after a few minutes which I assume is when the car is warming up

I have read that the pillars in particular are a common issue, so debating whether its just best to suck it up and accept its a general weakness of the car, rather than have Skoda rip it apart potentially causing more issues?

Thanks

Mine was caused by the window seal, after I fitted wind deflectors the rattle disappeared, I already had fittings replaced under the nearside pillar.

My driver's A-pillar rattles quite badly on occasion.... seems to be around where the seat-belt adjuster thing is..... tapping on the pillar there sometimes works to clear the noise, but it usually comes back after a while.
Unsure of the fix for this..... is this the commonly-reported "fuel line rattle" that I've read just about everywhere on the net?

And my dash has also started to "buzz" when cold, just like you described..... goes away once warm/after a few minutes, or I simply can't hear it any more due to the normal road-noise of these cars.
Is this the other commonly-reported "centre speaker buzz" that I've also read online?
Sounds like the soundaktor speaker buzzing, even though I have the volume set to low for mine, and it happens when I'm driving in D (the soundaktor doesn't work then does it?..... only when in Sport mode? )
When in Sport mode though, the soundaktor sounds completely normal, so I'm unsure if the speaker is the culprit....

If the rattle is by the seat belt adjuster then that's on the B-pillar.

A-pillar - side of windscreen

B-pillar - behind front doors

C-pillar - behind rear doors

D-pillar - side of tailgate

I've had rattles in A pillar which were better after taking it off and re-seating.

I also have a rattle from the left hand air vent on the dash; the fit isn't quite perfect and there's a small gap underneath the chrome trim.

Absolutely correct... I mean the B-Pillar
