Improved sound proofing in facelifted versio?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I’m currently on the hunt for a new company car to replace my ‘16 Octavia vRS TDI.

One option would be to go with the  facelifted vRS 245. However, my one complaint with the old car is the level of road noice at highway speeds (on rough Swedish tarmac). Have there been any improvements in this area in the facelifted Octavia?

Otherwise I guess I’ll take a good long look at the Superb 280 in L&K or Sport Line trim.

If you can fit Superb 280 within a budget, what to think about?

I can, but would prefer to pay less :tongueout:

Also, the Superb is a bit on the large side. I kind of prefer the format of the Octy. But there’s no doubt the Superb is the more refined car.

Decissions, decissions...

I can say that my actual 2018 VRS TDI, although 4x4 and with pano roof, is way quitier than my 2014 Elegance 2.0 TDI.

HTH,

Pano roof might not be very good example when talking about added sound insulation.

When I did sound insulation for my mk3 estate, roof created a lot of sound. With pano roof you have much less straight metal panel to vibrate and the edges of panoramic hole of the roof make things much stiffer resulting way quieter car without adding any additional sound insulation.

So if you are able you should compare cars without panoramic roof between them selves and cars with panoramic roofs between themselves not mix them up if you want apples for apples.

My vRS245 is pretty quiet till the wind noise takes over but, that's not till about 130mph

Well, well, I don't seem to recall that OP deliberately excluded pano roof and we're talking of VRS trim anyway with independent rear and so on.

I had a 2014 Elegance and rest assured that it was much noisier than 2018 VRS and 4x4.

A petrol 245 is of course way quieter than a Diesel (see themanwithnoaim's post)

In any case, there are several possible sources for indoor noise: besided steel resonances, seals can make a difference - above all at highway speeds - and what I meant is that in the case of my pano roof they are not a problem (finger crossed).

Hope this clarify.

Thank you all for your insights. Panoramic roof isn’t in the spec right now, but if I listen to the kids it will be an added option...

I went back to the dealer today, and I’m currently leaning towards a Superb L&K 280. :notme:

Great motor!

In any case that's exactly how I endedup specifying the pano roof. It seems I must thank kids for added calm (at least when I drive alone )

NO in a word still zero under bonnet insulation on the FL245. Therefore particularly noisy on concrete motorways, so I detest having to use sections of the M25 London orbital!:crying:

My sunroof makes a lot of noise when it's open at say 132MPH. Maybe it adds a bit more drag/downforce though! LOL.

Yep the Crew Protection system is a bit of a "Tommy Tucker" for opening the windows which I can live through but, the bloody pre-tensioning of the seat belt is a right PITA
